1957 : The Sputnik is launched by USSR
This is the first earth satelite. It weighed 183 pounds and was said to be the size of a basketball. The United States formed the ARPA in response, which stands for Advanced Research Project Agency, and makes sure that the US is in the lead for technology and science for the military. -

1962 - J.C.R. Licklider and the "Galactic Network"
Mr. Lickrider developed "packet switching" which formed internet connections & then discussed to others at ARPA something he created called a "Galactic Network" . -
1968 - The Network Working Group's First Meeting
The Network Group held its first meeting and talked about getting hosts for the first time in order to talk to one another. -
1969 - UCLA's Announcement
UCLA releases to the public a new thing called the internet, known as ARPANET at the time. -
Sept-Dec 1969: Nodes
Nodes were installed at UCLA, Stanford, The University of California, and the University of Utah. -
1972 - First Email
Email was developed in 1972, by Ray Tomlinson and was the first messaging system to be able to send messages through another network to others. The "@" sign was chosen for its at's meaning. -
1973 - TCP/IP
Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol is created and allows access to other networks. -
1982 - "Internet" is created.
People finally decide to call the world wide web, internet instead of ALPANET -
1984 - DNS is created
Domain Name System (DNS) is created (such as : .org, .net, .com)
and over 1,000 host are reached! -
1991 - WWW was introduced
WWW is introduced by Tim Berners Lee at UCLA -
1996 - Millions of People and the Internet
People everywhere start to use the internet, 45 million people are using it by this time all over the world! -
2006 - Whoa! Loads of websites
More than 92 million websites are created!
