    On March 12th, 1947, the Truman Doctrine was signed. With this, the United States promised to provide economic and military aid to oppose Communism.

    The Marshall Plan was created by former Secretary of State, George Marshall, to provide $13 billion for the rebuilding of Europe. The plan also provided political stability and a fast recovery from the war.
  • Berlin Airlift

    Berlin Airlift
    The Berlin Airlift was created to form a blockade3 and to supply West Berlin. The Soviets had been depriving West Berlin of their necessities, and the western leaders refused to give up. After the blockade was formed and successful, the Soviets gave up on the separation of Berlin.

    Many societal changes were arising during the Cold War, one of which being the Civil Rights movement. After the Brown vs. Board of Education ruling, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and other activists took a stand against racial injustice.

    After Cuba allowed the installation of Soviet nuclear weapons in their country, the Soviets and the United States started feuding. It wasn't until after the United States agreed to remove their missiles from Turkey and agreed not attack Cuba, that the Soviets removed their weapons.

    The fall fo the Berlin wall demonstrated how fragile the Soviet Union had become, they no longer had the power to keep the country separated. East Germany reopend the the gates and Berliners decided to tear down the wall.

    The Velvet Revolution was a non-violent transition into new power in Czechoslovakia. The Revolution forced Communists out of power, and freed the countries so they could do as they pleased.

    After the slow decline in the Soviet Union, many of it's territorites were requesting their freedom. Because of this, the country began to lose control and power making them too weak to continually fight against everyone else.
