    Japanese Invasion of China
    The Chinese military made a trading deal with the Japanese. This helped the Japanese extend their supply lines and gain assistance from other nations. After the Japanese got what they wanted, they started an open warfare between them and the Chinese. From the start of the war, to September 9, 1945, over 1 million Japanese troops would unsuccussfully attack China.   • Rape of Nanking

    Rape of Nanking
    After taking Nanking, at that time the capital of China, Japan finished what they called "forgotten holocaust". The Japanese forced a massive murder of pillage, arson, and rape to roughly 260,000 men, women, and children, all who died. Men women and children were also beheaded, machine-gunned, crushed by tanks, burned, and bruied alive. Japanese troops were burtal everyone.   • Germany's Invasion of Poland

    Germany's Invasion of Poland
    Germany, led by Adolf Hitler, had taken over Czechoslavakia and Austria without any problems. This led to the invasion of Poland. Germany then had realized Poland was dangerous to them and went after them. Poland got help from the French military, but it took to long to fight back and Germany showed the quickness needed to fight the war, Poland soon would surrender to the Germans.   • German Blitzkrieg

    German Blitzkrieg
    The blitzkrieg, is a term the Germans used to refer to a short war and the quickness of military actions. Germans use of the blitzkrieg tactic, they successfully defeated Denmark, Norway, the Baltic Sea, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, and a British Expeditionary, and most of these barly saw the attacks coming.   • Fall of Paris

    Fall of Paris
    The Batttle of France started the fall of Paris. This battle consisted of two operations, neither of them benefiting the British or the French. They both saw they were being pushed back, so the British left France all alone. France knew they couldnt beat Germany, so they signed an armistice with Germany to split the country of France.   • Operation Barbarossa

    Operation Barbarossa
    Operation Barbarossa was a huge invasion of the Soviet Union from the Baltic shore by the Germans and its allies. The USSR was caught off gaurd, but didn't back down. They were determined and had more equipment than the Germans. After awhile, the Germans failed against the Soviet Union and from then on, the Soviets would go westward, entering the capital of Germany.   • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor
    This day marked the bombing fired by the Japanese that struck the American naval base, Pearl Harbor. The Japanese goal was to destroy the U.S. Pacific Fleet, which would help get the region they wanted to control. The plan failed, destroying little, because of most being at sea. The Japanese later would be bombed by the US and make an attempt at fighting. Picture Link:

  • Wannsee Conference

    Wannsee Conference
    Many changes of life styles, leaders, and moving, were finally going to be figured out by Eichmann and Heydrich. They both met at Wannsee to work on a final solution. The time it took to work on the solution, many Jews had been killed again. After the Final Solution was desided, there would be little left of the Jews. This is the beginning in a way, of the Holocaust.

  • Bataan Death March

    Bataan Death March
    This day marked the surrender of Bataan, to the Japanese. Following the surrender, the Japanese forced thousands of Americans and Filipino survivors of Bataan's fighting, to march 100 kilometers in the heat. Those that may have fallen along the way, were beaten to death. Hundreds and thousands of Americans and Filipinos died on the march.

  • Battle of Midway

    Battle of Midway
    This battle is known as the turning point in the Pacific War because of it destroying the Japanese. During this battle, the America fleet attacked and destroyed the Japanese ships and their four carriers, only losing one American carrier. This battle would have secured the Japanese parts in the Pacific, however, the Americans weren't going to allow that. This loss got Japan very nervous about the future.   • Battle of Stalingrad

    Battle of Stalingrad
    Stalingrad attracted German and Soviet divisions, however, with both wanting it, tensions were going to rise. The reason for this battle was not to win over anything, it was to help the names of their leaders, Adolf Hitler and Josef Stalin. Stalin was going to defeat Germany in his home, Stalingrad, but becasue of heavy casualties, the Germans took control over Stalingrad. The Soviets managed to push on though.   • Operation Gomorrah

    Operation Gomorrah
    This operation was planned by Harris, head of the British Bomber Command, to bomb Hamburg. This bomb would hit day and night, dropping tons of bombs and destroying the city that doesn't even know what coming. Most of Hamburg was burned to nothing, but the bombs just kept hitting. Germany involved up in the air, against the US gave the them some trouble. However, the US still came out on top.

  • D-Day (Normandy Invasion)

    D-Day (Normandy Invasion)
    The invasion began in the darkness with three division airborne troops and months of planning. When morning came, five divisions arrived on shore, each division had their own little section they had to capture. Many more troops from each division came to the islands, and this is known as the largest land/water operation in history. The first invasion is named D-Day.   • Battle of the Bulge

    Battle of the Bulge
    The Battle of the Bulge name came from a 50 miles wide and 70 miles deep bulge, made by the Germans trying to re-capture the two places the US took. The attack was a surprise and not may military people were defending that spot at that time. The Germans successfully destroyed two American divisions, but the battle took enough time to get more Americans to the line. The Americans ended up pushing the Germans back.   • Operation Thunderclap

    Operation Thunderclap
    The main purpose of this operation was to bomb the Eastern cities in Germany to hold back transport infrastructure from becoming the Eastern front. At this time, air forces from Germany were think, and the Nazi regime failed them. After getting more support from the Soviets, Churchill moved up the time of the bombing.   • Battle of Iwo Jima

    Battle of Iwo Jima
    The nearing of the Japanese home island by the Allies was getting closer. The Allies captured the small islands near by, to help with the closing in on the Japanese home islands. Iwo Jima, being only eight square miles in size made fighting interesting.   • Battle of Okinawa

    Battle of Okinawa
    This battle was the last stop before the attacking on the Japanese mainland. The Japanese defended the island from heavy American fire, knowing the importance it had both. By this time in the war, the Japanese had lost most air power, so when the the largest Japanese battleship was sent out, she was sailing into her own suicide.   • VE Day

    VE Day
    Allies destroyed many German cities and kept invading more. The Russians got to the German capital first, and cut off all supplies. Hitler killed himself a little after the Russians invasion and the last leader from the German side, surrendered to the Westerns and Russians.   • Dropping of the Atomic Bombs

    Dropping of the Atomic Bombs
    Following the win of Okinawa by the Allies, the plan for the invasion of Japanese home islands was being up into place. The Japanese had an idea what was coming from the Allies, but both knew the tragedy it would bring. The dropping of the bombs first hit on the city of Hiroshima, destroying it. The second bomb was dropped after no Japanese surrender was being shown. The Japanese loss shocked many. Picture Link:

  • VJ Day

    VJ Day
    VJ Day is known for two dates, August 15 and September 2, 1945. August 15 is when the Allies celebrated the victory over Japan, however, September 2 is the official day the Japanese administraion surrenderred with a signed document. War chances in the East grew and Japan had a lot of power in the Pacific but the US refused to back down. The US then dropped two atomic weapons on Japanese cities.
