MaoZedong heads Long March
The long march was a military retreat under the Red Army of the Communist Party of China. This was led by Mao Zedong, a former assistnat librarian. There was not one Long March, but a series of marches due to the multiple communist armies fleeing up north. The long march was the beginning of Maos's acent to power. -
Germany invades Poland; France and Great Britain declare war on Germany
In 1939 Germany, invaded Poland, this was becasue Germany already had many camps stationed throughout that area which they could turn into extermination camps. -
Japan attacks Pearl Harbor
This was the day that would live in imfamy. This was the first attack on American soil from the Japanese. Japanese bombers flew over Pearl Harbor , Hawaii and sunk many American battleships. The attack was based on the theory that America could be scared way from war. This belief was held to be untrue and thus, America entered the war against the Axis Powers. -
United Nations formed
In 1945 the U.N. was formed as an orginazation to promote international coperation between the countries of the world. This was a replacement for the ineffective league of nations. Its objectives include maintaining international peace and security as well as international development. -
Germany surrenders
In may 1945, Germany surrendered to the Allied Forces. During the battle of berlin, the Nazi leader, Adolf Hitler knew he would be capture and comitted suicide. Following Germany surrendered after being overwhelmed by the Allied powers. Hitlers death marked the victory in Europe and the turning point of the war. -
Allies use atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki
These were the only two atom bombs ever recorded to be used in War. When America thretened to drop bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki they did not hear a response. When the bombs were released thousands of people were instantly killed from the blast. This sparked the surrender of the Japanese army and the end of the war.
