  • Treaty of Versailles

    Treaty of Versailles
    27 countries met to negotiate a peace agreement at Versailles. This forced Germany to assume war guilt, pay reparations, and to disarm to the point of helplessness.
  • Battle of France

    Battle of France
    German air attacks delayed France from defending along the Somme and Aisne Rivers. Germany was able to outflank France, and France surrendered on June 22nd.
  • Battle of Britain

    German aircraft were sent to Britain to bomb airfields and destroy planes. Britain relied heavily on intercepting German communication.
  • Lend Lease

    The Lend Lease allowed for the Allies to use US equipment without needing to pay for it, as long as it was returned.
  • Operation Barbaross

    Germany invades the Soviet Union.
  • Normandy Campaign - D-Day

    Also called Operation Overlord. The Allied victory in Europe required the destruction of Nazi Germany.
  • Ardennes Alsace Campaign

    Battle of the Bulge. The Germans attempted to regain the initiative with a surprise offensive through the Ardennes to seize Antwerp.
  • Yalta Conference

    Winston Churchill, FDR, and Joseph Stalin were brought together to discuss the postwar settlement of Europe and the war against Japan. It was able to maintain Allied solidarity, but legitimated spheres of influence that lead to the cold war.
  • Iwo Jima Campaign

    By capturing Iwo Jama, it let the US to be able to allow American fighters to escort bombs into Japan. It also gave them a way to rescue striken bombers returning from Japan.
  • Japanese Surrender

    After the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan declared their surrender with the Potsdam Declaration.
