The battle of Guadalcanal was fought from August 8th, 1942 until February 9th, 1943. It was the first victory for the allies, offensively and decisively, in the Pacific theater. -

This was one of the largest confrontations to happen in WWII. Germany and the Soviet Union both fought over control of a southern city in Russia called Stalingrad. -
D-Day
The allies lead an invasion into northern France. They land on the beaches in Normandy and their victory created a turning point for the war in Europe. -

Meeting at Potsdam
Ended August 2nd; Joseph Stalin, Winston Churchill, and U.S. President Harry Truman met in Potsdam, Germany, from July 17 to August 2, 1945, to negotiate terms for the end of World War II. -
Hiroshima
The United States dropped the atomic bomb on the city of Hiroshima as a hope to end the war with Japan. Hiroshima was chosen because of it's military importance.
