Germany haults invasion as they lose their first battle to Britain's superior air forces. -
Germany invades the USSR
Germany invades the USSR on June 22, 1941 opening up the "Eastern Front". -
Pearl Harbor
Japan attacks U.S. naval base Pearl Habor. The damage was catastrophic. The attack brought the U.S. to enter the war. -
Battle of Midway
U.S. forces strike four Japanese aircraft carriers. The battle is considered a huge turning point in the war. -
Batle of Stalingrad
The war begins to turn in favor for the Allies as Geramany loses its south army. -
D-Day
Allied forces land on northern France's coast. Largest amphibious attack in word history, and had a big impact on the war. -
Hitler's death
Hitler commits suicide with Berlin falling soon after, and the surrender of Germany. -
U.S. bombs Japan
Because of Japan's refusal to surrender, the U.S. dropped two atomic bombs. One on Hiroshima on August 6th, and another on Nagasaki on August 9th. To date this is the only use of nuclear weapons in world history.
