  • Germany Invades Poland

  • France Falls to Germany

    Great Britain now stood alone in its fight against Germany. The exhaustion of resources would lead up to the US passing the Lend Lease Act.
  • Lend Lease Act

    The United States agreed to assist Great Britain in their war efforts on the condition that they would return its supplies after the war.
  • Pearl Harbor Attack

    The Japanese attack on Pearl harbor killed over 2,000 military personnel. In just one day, the U.S. declared war.
  • Midway

    The U.S. won a decisive victory against the Japanese Navy in the Pacific Ocean. It was a turning point in the war.
  • Revenue Act of 1942

    The U.S. government withheld taxes and every citizen’s personal taxes were raised. This displayed the federal government’s rising power.
  • Korematsu vs United States

    The Supreme Court upheld the Japanese internment camps. Decades later, the federal government apologized and paid out surviving camp residers.
  • Yalta Conference

    The U.S., USSR, and Great Britain came to discuss how post-war Europe would be organized, recognizing Germany would be defeated. The Allied Powers also agreed to participate in the United Nations.

    While having his portrait taking, FDR complained of a terrible headache. He later died. Vice President Harry S. Truman then assumed office.
  • Japan Surrenders

    Japan surrenders to the U.S. after atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki on August 6th and August 9th, respectively. This marked the end of WWII.
