Japan's invasion of China
Japan invaded China due to a lack of resources on the island of Japan. While in China, some cities surrendered but the Japanese continued their attacks, harming and killing many people. -

Nazi and German officials met to discuss how to "cleanse the gene pool" in Germany. -

America intercepted a Japanese code and knew their plans and were ready for the attack. The U.S. won the battle and it was a major turning point for the Allies. -
D-Day
The Allies attacked the German forces and there was a large quanity of deaths because of this attack. The beach where they attacked was used to supply and reniforce the Allies as they moved across countires. -
Yalta Conference
The Yalta Conference was where the three major Allied leaders met to discuss how to take down Nazi Germany. -
Iow Jima/ Okinawa
Japan had planned to destroy America's Marines so others couldn't use them and in the end, U.S. Marines ended up taking Iwo Jima and Okinawa. -
Hitler's suicide
After accepting his defeat, he appointed Admiral Karl Donitz as head of state and Josef Gobbles as chancellor and then shot himself while his wife drank poison. With his wishes, their bodies were burned. -
VE Day
On this day, Germany officially surrendered. -
Potsdam Conference
At the conference, the Allies discussed peace setelments in Europe but did not end up writing any treaties. -
Atomic bombing of Hiroshima & Nagasaki
President Harry Truman warned Japan to surrender but they did not so a bomb was first dropped on Hiroshima and then three days later, on Nagasaki. Japan surrendered in September. -

The Japanese surrendered on the battleship Missouri. -

The U.N. was created to maintain peace and security within the nations included in the organization. -
Truman Doctrine
President Truman declared that the US would provaid aid to the governments of Greece and Turkey. -
Marshall Plan
The U.S. supported a plan to help the economies in Europe be able to supprot democratic institutions. -

Mao Zedong was the leader of the Peoples Republic from 1949-1959 when he died. -
NATO
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization was created to act as a counterweight to the Soviet armies in Central and Easter Europe after WWII. -
Korean War
North Korea invaded the south and after many deaths and aid from China, Korea spereated into two independent states. -
Vietnam War
North Vietnam wanted to unify the entire country into a communist rule. South Vietnam wanted to remain like the Western countries but eventually, after the U.S. left, South Vietnam fell to the North during an invasion. -

This treaty provided a unified military help for Soviet military units on the borders of other participating countries. -

After Stalin's death, Nikita S. Khrushchev wrote a speech denouncing Stalin. The speech was designed to destroy the image of the previous leader and return the government to the Leninist model. -

The U.S. funded the invasion of Cuba to overthrow Fidel Castro. -

The Berlin Wall divided Germany into East and West. East Germany was a columnist rule and many Germans tried to escape into West Germany but were captured and killed in doing so. -

The Soviet Union had nuclear-armed missiles in Cuba. This almost lead to a war between the U.S. and the Soviet Union. -
Gorbachev
Was named a member of the Central Committee and later became a general secretary of the Communist Party. The first attempts to democratized the Soviet political system were started with his perestroika policy. -
Soviet Union falls
When the soviet union collapsed, the cold war was officially over and the country became Russia instead.
