    After the Japanese invaded Manchuria and established a sort of government, they then attacked Shanghiai. These acts led to a war between the Chinese and the Japanese on July 7th, 1937.   • Operation Barbarossa

    Operation Barbarossa
    This is the invasion of the Soviet Union. Over 3 million German soldiers participated in this with 3 thousand tanks. This battle did not go well for the Germans as they seriously underestimated the Soviet Union. Due to their miscalculations and weather calculations the Germans had to retreat.

    Japanese bombers attacked the Pearl Harbor naval base in Hawaii. It was a victory for the Japanese.This led to President Roosevelt delivering the Infamy Speech, telling Americans what happened.
  • Wannsee Conference

    This is when the Nazi leaders met to discuss what is called "The Final Solution". The goal was to find "a solution to the Jewish question". They came up with the idea of work camps and although they never used the word "extermination" it was clear that was the goal.
  • Operation Gomorrah

    In a very short amount of time the British dropped 2,300 tons of bombs on Hamburg. The British attacks on Hamburg lasted until November that year. This to Hitler and other Germans meant it was almost the end of the war, as they suffered many deaths.
  • D-DAY Normandy Invasion

    The Allied forces of Britain, America,Canada, and France attacked German forces in Normandy. Now known as D-day invasion of Normandy. It was almost canceled due to the weather.
  • Operation Thunderclap

    The idea was to bomb the cities eastern front. The success of their bombing was dependent on the weather. They ending up bombing and many died.

    The Americans invaded Iwo Jima, which is near a Japanese coast. If Americans gained control of the island the could use it for emergency landing places fro damaged planes. It took Americans over a month to claim the island but eventually it happened.

  • Dropping of the atomic bombs

    American forces bombed the Japanese city Hiroshima. One of the bombs happened to be named "Little boy". The bombing were meant to be the end of WWII. When the Japanese surrendered the war was finally over.

    It was announced just 12 days after dropping the atomic bombs the Japanese surrendered. The day was called "Victoryover Japan Day" or VJ day for short. President Harry Truman announced the news to the white house.

  • Battle of the Bulge

    This was the largest battle during WWII. It was the German's attempt to split British and American Armies in France up. They had come names like "Watch on the Rhine" and "Autumn mist".
    There were a lot of losses on both sides, but unlike the American forces, German's could not make up.
