After the first World War the people did all they could to prevent combat from happening. They implemented The Treaty of Versailles. This stated that Germany is too pay back the nations for the damage it has caused and lose some of their territory. -
Failed League of Nations
The league of nations was created after the first world war to prevent future international affairs. The league failed due too the decision to not intervene following the occupation of Manchuria and the invasion of Abyssinia by Italy. -
Rise of Nazism
Nazism came to rise when Hitler came into the picture. The rise began due to the discontent after WWI and the harsh terms of The Treaty of Versailles. The rise began to continue with the ongoing propaganda and economic hardships. -
Economic Turndowns
Started in Germany around 1923 and it wasn't until Black Thursday that the whole market crashed. This crash was due to hyperinflation. The crash led to serve unemployment rates. -
Rape of Nanking (1937)
The Rape of Nanking was a mass killing of Chinese civilians and the surrendered soldiers of the Japanese imperial army. The brutality was characterized by mass executions, intense sexual violence, and looting of shops. The Japanese assumed that the fall of Nanjing would quickly led to Chinese surrender. -
Germany's Invasion of Poland (1939)
The Germans invasion of Poland marked the start of the second war. The attack was naval and the Germans deployed 62 divisions and over 1,300 aircraft in a coordinated assault across the German-Polish border. The invasion led to significant casualties. -
Fall of Paris (1940)
The fall of Paris occurred during the battle of France in WWII. German forces would launch an invasion of France and the low countries. During this time the French government declared Paris as an open city to avoid its destruction. This led France's government to surrender on June 22, 1940 -
Operation Barbarossa (1941)
Operation Barbarossa was the code name for the German invasion of the Soviet Union in WWII. This caused intense escalation in the war, as it involved the largest most powerful invasion yet. The campaign failed ultimately but was successful in the crossing of soviet lines. -
Pearl Harbor (1941)
The attack on pearl harbor was a result of a surprise aerial assault on the U.S. naval base, located in Oahu Hawaii. This attack was a devastation due to the amount of U.S. causalities the damage; 3,400 men. The event marked a significant turning point in the world by getting the U.S. officially involved. -
Bataan Death March (1942)
The Bataan Death March was a forced march of 76,000 prisoners of the war for a distance of 66 miles. They went from the Mariveles on the Bataan Peninsula's southern tip, and proceeded north to San Fernando. The march lasted between 5 to 10 days depending where prisoners joined the march also served brutality was implemented. -
Battle of the Coral Sea (1942)
The Battle of the Coral Sea was fought from May 4 to May 8, 1942, it was a naval and air engagement during WWII. The war was fought over the territory of Australia and New Caledonia. The allied intelligence knew of the Japanese plans and mobilized U.S. carrier-based planes. The battle was significant because it prevented the Japanese from capturing Port Moresby and it was the first battle where naval ships did not directly fire at eachother. -
Battle of Stalingrad (1942)
This battle can be characterized as the pivotal confrontation of the Nazi Germans and the Soviet Union, it is considered one of the greatest fights in the War. The battle began when the German 6th army started advancing on Stalingrad, which was a majorly industrialized city. The Germans were not prepared for the counterattack by the soviets. The soviets launched Operation Uranus which encircled the German troops. By doing this the soviets trapped them. -
Operation Thunderclap
Operation Thunderclap was a plan for the German Sixth Army during the Battle of Stalingrad in WWII. The plan was to breakout of the Soviet encirclement. The operation was shortly vetoed by Hitler, as he told them to hold there positions. -
Battle of Okinawa (1945)
The Battle of Okinawa took place from April 1 to June 21, 1945 it was important to WWII as a battle between U.S. and Japanese forces on Okinawa territory. The main territory was the Ryukyu Islands it was considered crucial for the invasion of the Japanese homelands. It was on of the most intense battles of the war resulting deaths of 12,000 Americans and 100,000 Japanese. -
Potsdam Declaration (1945)
The Potsdam Declaration was a negotiation by the United States, Great Britain, and China, calling for the unconditional surrender of Japan during World War II. The declaration took place closer to the end of the war. The Japanese prime minister at the time Suzuki Kantarō', started no comment to the ultimatum
