Germany began its assault on western Europe
Germany started the invasion in the lower countries. This included Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, and France. All these countries were neutral in the war. -
Lead-Lease Act
President Franklin Roosevelt convinced a large group of Congress to pass the Lend-Lease Act. This then allowed the U.S. to sell or lend war materials to "any country whose defense the President deems vital to the defense of the United States." -
The Germans and their allies invaded the Soviet Union.
Germany invaded the pact that Soviet Union had with them, it was called the German-Soviet pact. Soviet leader Joseph Stalin then became a major wartime Allied leader. Stalin was then against Nazi Germany and its Axis allies. -
Pearl Harbor
A day before Pearl Harbor, Soviet troops shot a counteroffensive that permanently kept Germany away. The United States immediately declared war on Japan after Pearl Harbor. Few days pasted and Germany and Italy declared war on the United States. -
British Royal Air Force carried out a raid on the German city of Cologne with a thousand bombers
This was the first time war was brought home to Germany. The next couple of years, Allied air forces systematically bombed industrial plants and cities all over the Reich. Reducing huge amouts of urban in Germany. -
Stalingrad
Germany begins invading Russian city of Stalingrad. It was a battle that took hundreds of thousands of German and Russian lives. The Red Army finally defeats invading Nazis.The battle proves to be a turning point in the war, as Germany begins a retreat from the Eastern Front. -
Allies landed on Italy.
After the leader, Mussolini was selected as the Italian premier the Italy military took over. Then German troops staioned in Italy and seized control about half of northern Italy. Mussolini, who was arrested by the Italy military, was freed by German troops. -
The big three
The "big three," were Roosevelt, Churchill, and Stalin. They met in Iran to discuss the invasion of Italy. It was the very first time all three of them had ever met. -
D-Day
156,000 American, British and Canadian forces landed on five beaches on D-Day. The invasion was one of the largest military assaults in history. It required extensive planning.
