During the Chinese civil war, when the Nationalists are fighting the communists. Then, when it finnaly looks like the Nationalists have cornered their enemy, the communists go on a 6,000 mile retreat through rural China. During their retreat, they regroup and gain more support. With that extra support they eventually win the war. -
Germany invades Poland; France and Great Britain declare war on Germany
After Germany signs a non-agression pact with Russia, he invades poland and conquers it realitively quickly, using his battle stratagy called Blitzkreig. It involves fast moving trucks, planes, and tanks to wipe out enemies quickly. After Germany takes Poland, Britain and France declare war on Germany. Realitivly soon after that, France gets conquered by Germany and has a puppet government set up in Vichy. -
Japan Attacks Pearl Harbor
When Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, they thought it was a good idea. One the other hand, the person who cordinated the attack, thought it was a very bad idea. He said that Japan would have 6 months to do what they wanted in the pacific, but then the Americans would eventually overpower them. Exactly 6 months later, the US won the Battle of Midway, which was the turing point in the Pacific Theater -
Germany Surenders
After the Allies take the Beaches, Hitler knows he has lost: he has the Canadians, the British, and the US coming from the west, and he has the Soviets coming from the east. Rather than being captured, he commits suicide. Meanwhile, Germany is being bombed by the US so they can walk talk Berlin with less of a struggle later. -
United Nations formed
The UN had originally started as the atlantic charter, but as more and more countries pledged to fight the nazis, more and more countried became part of the alliance. Then, President Roosevelt first used the the term, United Nations, and the name eventaully stuck. -

The US drops Atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki
The Atomic bombs droped on Japan hilled hurdreds of thousands of people, almost wiping out these two cities. Fat Man and Little Boy, the two Atomic bombs droped, were the first two ever to be used in combat. Because of the huge chain reaction the splitting of an atom causes, they destroy a huge amount of land immediately, then leave lingering nuclear radiation that killed even move people than the initial impact.
