Stock Market Crash
People in the early 1929's were getting rich off of stocks. Then Black Tuesday hit, and the stocks went striaght down. This occured on the 29th of October, 1929. Everyone would try and sell their stocks. As they sold their stocks, the prices dropped, and in just a matter of time, the stocks had dropped 50%. Thousands of people went broke because of this. This is significant to Canada because it not only affected them, but it showed how Canada had reacted and progressed over these hardships. -
Radios
Radios were introduced in November 30th, 1930. All families gather around their radio listening to comedies, news, sports, etc. The Canadians started to get worried about the Americans and how much they listen to radios. The Canadians did not want to be like the Americans with this situation. This is significant to Canada because is changed their history greatly. Canadians could now communicate from far, and were entertained in a whole new way. -
Hitler's Rise To Power
The first thing that can be noted about hitler's rise to power, is when he joined the DAP political party (later formed the Nazi group). But he soon became the leader of it. Later, Adolf was appointed chancellor of Germany. He now had control over military, politics, and economy. This is a very powerful position for a man with these intentions to be in. This is significant to Canada because this rise to power had effected the world as a whole and later brought Canada into the second world war. -
Dust Storms
Dust storms would affect prarie farmers from the time inbetween 1929 - 1937. On the date of November 11th, 1933, a huge dust storm ruined farms in South Dakota. These dust storms would completely destroy all crops. This is significant to Canada because there were a lot of farmers in this time. Dust storms would ruin Canadians wheat and corn etc. -
Canada Joins The War
Before WWII had begun, Britain was in full control of Canada. If Britain had declared war, that would mean that Canada was at war aswell. but at this time, Canada now was almost completely Independent and different from Britain. This means that when they declared war on Germany, It was completely on their decision. -
The Battle of Britain
The Battle of Britain was from July 10th to October 31st, 1940. Adolf Hitler's plan was to bomb Britain forcing the to give in.The Battle of Britain was Germany's first failure. This is significant to Canada because they helped fight off the German's in the worlds time of need. Canada help by taking figting in the sky. It was also significant to Canada because it was a great achievement in Canada's war career with a win in the Battle of Britain. -
War on Eastern Front
Germany and Italy became an alliance with Japan. They would help each other if ther was an invasion from the Soviet Union. Hitler and the Germansdecided to attack the Soviet Union in June 1941. Germany had won the wat but Germany and the Soviet Union still fought in battles. This is significant to Canada because it keeps Canada aware that countries have war with others more than once. It keeps them aware that a war can occur to them at any point of time. -
The Holocaust
The holocaust was a huge tragedy in the year of 1942. The Nazis had a plan to demolished all Jews. The German's persuaded the Jews to get shipped off to Germany and Poland to get put into concentration camps. These concentration camps would trap the Jews in a tight area, and then went on to kill all of them. This is significant to Canada because it made them aware of what the German's are all about. Canada then stoppe the Germans with ally's by their side. -
D-Day
In 1944, American, Britain, and Canadian troops were ally's of this main event. This took place in Europe during WWII. The Juno Beach landings were judged necessary to provide flanking support to the British. Taking Juno was the responsibility to the 3rd Infantry Division and commandos of the Royal Marines. This is significant to Canada because it was a main event for them and the allies to stop Germany and their terrorising, and it changed Canada, bringing more peace. -
End of Holocaust
On May 8th, 1945, was the ending of WWII. The genocide of the Germans towards the Jews had then stopped after the Germans were forced to surrender. They killed around1/3 of the worlds Jews. This was significant to Canada because it was a vital event for them and the allies to now see the importance of the Nazi's being defeated. It affected them in a way to bring more peace to the world.
