    Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand
    Archudke Franz Ferdinand was going to the city hall of Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina in a motorcade. That day seven young Bosnians had fanned out along the main avenue that the motorcade would follow. The motorcade was driving at high speeds and made a wrong turn. When attempting to turn around another Bosnian, Princip shot at the Archduke twice at point blank range, the first bullet hitting him in the neck and the second striking Sophie in the abdomen, killing them within minutes.
  • Battle of Ypres

    Battle of Ypres
    Forces from the Allies and Germany fought to control Ypres. German forces captured Antwerp early in October, and the remaining Belgian forces and troops of BEF arrived in Ypres between October 8th and 19th and reinforced the defenses there while German forces were preparing to launch the first phase of an offensive which aimed to capture Channel ports and break the Allied lines. On October 19th a long period of fierce combat began and came to halt on November 22nd when winter came.

    Battle of Cantigny
    The first sustained American offensive in WWI, Allied forces, including nearly 4,000 American soldiers capture a village in France from German forces, Cantigny. The French army aided the American forces, letting them quickly overrun the German-held village. The American forces had to endure 7 german counterattacks over 72 hours and were given orders to not surrender. By the time relief came American forces had suffered over 1,000 casualties and were exhausted from the continuous attacks.

    Treaty of Sevres
    The Treaty of Sevres officially ends the war between the Allies and the Ottoman Empire. The treaty made many in the Ottoman Empire angry and resentful since the terms were harsh. it took 15 months to make the treaty and Great Britain, Italy, and France signed it for the Allied side. 3 years beforehand, Britain ad France already decided what to do with the Middle east in the Sykes-Picot Agreement.
  • Meuse-Argonne Offensive

    Meuse-Argonne Offensive
    After 400,000 American troops were transferred, the longest American offensive began. The Germans continued to fight despite losing over 33,000 soldiers as prisoners, and more from death and incapacitation. The Meuse-Argonne offensive was called off on September 30 but was renewed four days later. The German soldiers held on for another month before starting their final retreat. U.S. soldiers advanced 32 kilometers before the general armistice was announced, stopping the war, on November 11
