The Battle of Somme occurs from July 1st, 1916 to November 13th, 1916. On the first day, the British had more than 57,000 casualties, with 20,000 deaths. This battle ends with over a million casualties.

The Second Battle of Somme lasted from March 21st, 1918, to April 5th, 1918. The Germans attacked the British with gas and artillery fire. The British were forced to retreat, this would be the Germans' biggest territory gain on the western front.

On October 16th, 1918 William Boyd's sister passed. He had received his first letter from home from his sister, Luna. “But I will say it was the hardest blow I had ever received since my departure.” He claims his sister was like a second mother to him.

The Battle of Mons happened on November 11th, 1918. Fought on World War I’s last day, the Canadian corpse captured Mons, Belgium, which had been held by the Germans since 1914. That day, Germany had agreed to an armistice at 11 a.m.
