Gavrilo Princip, Serbian terrorist-type group the Black Hand, assassinates Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary. This took place during an official visit to the Bosnian capital of Sarajevo. Both Archduke and his wife were killed. This was the main cause of the world war one break out they say. -
Germany declares war on Russia.
The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria on June 28, 1914 being the main problem for this. After Austria-Hungary and Serbia going at war, Germany declares war on France. Germany does not only declare war but they invade neutral Belgium. Germany felt threatened because Russia mobilized its forces on Germany's eastern borders. -
Germany Says No To Submarines
The sinking of the Lusitania and other neutral passenger lines, Kaiser Wilhelm suspends unrestricted submarine warfare. This was an attempt to keep the United States out of the war, but it it helped German efforts to prevent American supplies from reaching France and Britain. -
TANKS
The British employ the first tanks ever used in battle, at Delville Wood. Although they are useful at breaking through barbed wire and clearing a path for the infantry. The tanks are still and they fail to be the best weapon. Their designers thought they and planned as they would be. -
Zimmermann Telegram
British intelligence Wilson the Zimmermann Telegram. This was a message from German foreign secretary Arthur Zimmermann proposing that Mexico side with Germany in case of war between Germany and the United States. Germany promises to return to Mexico the "lost provinces" of Texas and much of the rest of the American Southwest. Mexico declines the offer, but the outrage at this interference in the Western Hemisphere pushes American public opinion to support entering the war. -
US ships sink
The United States declares war against Germany. The Zimmermann Telegram takes place after that. US merchant ships take a very hard hit and increase anger a little. German U-boats hit Us boats taking down 3 individual ones. -
Landing in France
Over 14,000 American troops leave their camps to leave for . Most arrive the 26 of June at the port of St Nazarene in France. When arriving in France it was kept a secret they were there. When they step out on the streets when they get there, it was hard for locals not to cheer so it was given away very fast. -
German sign peace Treaty
The Germans sign a peace treaty with the new Bolshevik government of Russia. The terms of the treaty give Germany huge tracts of land that had been the Ukraine and Poland, and peace on the Eastern Front allows Germany to shift soldiers to the Western Front causing serious problems for the French, British, and Americans. -
Roy Avery Takes off
Roy gets on board to leave for war he is in the Army. He is on a boat that has a 15 inch deck. He is with 1,110 in crew. He says it has been okay but it was super cold . Not long after that at 3 am he finds out that the us get s bombed by Germans and their boat gun was fired. -
INFLUENZA BREAKOUT
The first few cases breakout on this day. The virus traveled with military people from camp to camp and across the Atlantic. September through November 1918, influenza and pneumonia sickened 20% to 40% of U.S. Army and Navy people. Influenza and pneumonia killed more American soldiers and sailors during the war than did enemy weapons did. -
Roy Averys Experience
His first war experience, the night after he felt as if he heard guns firing in the distance. But, on this day he had to report to his quartermaster to get a helmet an d a gas mask because they said war was getting closer. According to him he says "all hell broke loose ", bad firing at the front and many explosions. 900 shells he said were in his valley led to a few wounded coming in. -
Roy Avery writing cut off
Roy had wrote a note that was going to be his writing for awhile. He said that this was wasn't his choice, it was a order.There was a issue of important information being leaked to the enemies. So in case of him being captured he said, he had deiced to sigh off and wasn't back till October. -
Roy aver is back!
After being gone since May 4, 1918 he is back. He wasn't aloud to write because there was problems of enemies capturing people and finding their dries and reading them. So he stopped writing in case that happened to him. He was back and his first thing he wrote about was that he revived permission for a 7 day leave. -
Armistice Day
The incessant boom of artillery abruptly went silent along the Western Front in France. The war ended with what they called an armistice, an agreement in which both sides agree to stop fighting, and not surrendering . For both sides they said that an armistice was the fastest way to end the war. -
Roy Averys sick
Roy has had seen a lot of war related stuff on his war world 1 journey. One of his friends had just died from influenza. A couple days after Roy had a 101 body temp. He had some local doctors visit him when he was sick. They ended up limiting him into the hospital as a patient for influenza.
