    Henry Trollinger McNutt
    Henry Trollinger McNutt joined the Navy because America needed more sailors. Henry became a Fireman second class on the USS Illinois. Henry spent most of his time as a sailor working in the fire rooms. These Fire Rooms can reach up to 150 degrees according to Henry.

    Henry worked in the Fire Rooms threw out his time as a sailor. These Fire Rooms where places in the vessel where water was brought there to be boiled. After that the steam was moved into another room where it's used to power the sub. Henry said himself “It is no place for a weakling.”
  • Franz Ferdinand

    Franz Ferdinand
    Franz Ferdinand was born on December 18, 1863 and was assassinated on June 28, 1914. Gavrilo Princip, a Bosnian Serb Nationalist born December 18, 1863 and died April 28, 1918. Princip killed Franz and his wife Sophie while on a visit to the Bosnian capital of Sarajevo. With the death of Franz and his wife it sparked the start of WWI.

    One month after the assassination of the archduke Russia gets involved in a battle. Russia gets it's massive army to join the battle against Austria-Hungary to help their ally Serbia. With Russia doing this going against Austria-Hungary means they are not allied. Also with this happening leads to the European Great Powers forming. With this also leads to the European Great Powers to become hostile.

    Although the official date for WWI is July 28, 1914 on this day is the first declared invasion and battle. On August 4 Germany invades Belgium and that's one of the first battle to be recorded and official for WWI. The German Ultimatum gave King Albert a chance to fight or to be taken over. With the Belgian army consisting of around 43,000 and outnumbered Germany invaded Belgium.

    Henry served on the USS Illinois and was located at Norfolk, Virginia Portsmouth, Virginia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Atlantic Ocean, Europe, France, Halifax, and Nova Scotia. Henry survived the World War and was not a prisoner of war during his service. While on the USS Illinois Henry and other Veterans on board were transporting coal. They transported the coal and military weapons and equipment to Europe and France.

    On this day the German soldiers shot more than 150 tons of gas. This lethal chlorine gas was shot at the allied forces along the western front. This was the first time Germans used gas in battle shocking the Allies.

    On this day a British vessel the Lusitania was down. The Lusitania was launched on June 7, 1906, the length was 787 feet and weighed 44,060 tons. A German submarine shot down the Lusitania and on board the Lusitania there were 1,198 people and 128 of them Americans. With the death of these people and knowing it was the German forces who killed them Kaiser Wilhelm does not allow submarine warfare. Kaiser suspended German Submarines to try to keep America out of the war on September 18, 1915.

    Henry served on the USS Illinois during the WWI. The USS Illinois was a battleship built for the U.S. Navy. While aboard the USS Illinois she was awarded lead ship of the Illinois class. This ship was built with a main battery of 4 13 inch 330 mm guns. The USS Illinois can also reach up to a top speed of 18 mph.

    A lot has happened between the year of the world war we are now on this day September 15, 1916. On September 15th the first tanks ever were thrown into battle. The British army deployed their tanks at the battle of Delville Wood. These tanks were mostly useful for breaking down barbed wire for the troops to pass by safely. The tanks were not the best choice for a weapon because of how slow they were to fire. Although the tanks were not fit for an offensive job they played a good role of defense.

    Germany now resumes submarine warfare against Europe. When Germany attacked Europe America then joins in on the war against the German forces. With the U.S. joining that seals the fate of the Germans loosing the war.

    On February 25th Britain gave president Wilson the Zimmerman Telegraph. This Telegraph carrying a message stating that Mexico will join Germany in the war. President Wilson received this message from German foreign secretary Arthur Zimmerman.

    First with the U.S.
    On April 6th the U.S. officially joins in the World War. The U.S. joined forces and aided Britain and France against Germany. May 18, 1917, shortly after the U.S. joins in the war president Wilson signs the Selective Service Act. With this act came the Draft which meant American citizens had to join the fight in WWI at the age of 18 and where male had to serve the military.

    On this day German forces sign a peace treaty with Russia. With this treaty meant Germany had more land to move their armies. This land was Ukraine and Poland land, this allowed Germany peace on the Eastern front. When the German forces are allowed into the Western front this causes problems for French, British, and Americans armies.

    On September 29, 1918 Henry McNutt died. Henry arrived back to the U.S. and died of "bronco-pneumonia.” Henry came back to America safely after serving in the Atlantic on the USS Illinois. His girlfriend Myrtle had received a letter from Henry telling her 8 days before he got sick.

    The end
    This day has been officially announced as the last day of the World War. The final forces of the allied forces pushed German forces down to the Border. The British, French and American armies pushed forward and the collapse of the central powers began. At 5 Am the Armistice treaty was signed in the front lines of a French forest. At 11 Am 4 4 years of the World War has finally come to an end.
