  • Kossak's Birth

    Zofia Kossak Szczuka was born on August 10. 1889.
  • Zofia Kossak-Szczucka's Press Career

    During the German occupation of Poland, she worked in the underground press. 1939 through 1941, Zofia co-edited the underground newspaper "Poland Lives", co-founded the Catholic organization "Front for the Rebirth of Poland" and edited its newspaper, "The Truth" in 1941 Zofia used the code name Weronika.
  • The Continuing Works

    Zofia Kossak-Sczczucka's co-founded the Provisional Committee to Aid Jews, which later turned into the Council to Aid Jews, condemned "Zegota", an underground organization whose sole purpose was to save Jews in Poland from Nazi extermination.
  • Kossak's Protest

    The liquidation of the Warsaw Ghetto began in the summer of 1942, Kossak-Szczucka published a leaflet named "Protest" explaining , in graphic terms, the conditions in the Ghetto, and the horrific circumstances of the deportations then taking place.
  • Germans Surrender

    Germans surrender to Russian troops at Stalingrad in the first big defeat of Hitler's armies.
  • Jewish Uprisings

    Weapons are smuggled into Jewish Ghettos so that the Jews can fight off Nazis that will send them to concentration camps
  • The Jews Attempt to Escape

    Two hundred Jews escape from Treblinka extermination camp during a revolt. Nazis then hunt them down one by one.
  • Acts of Resistance

    On October 7, the sonderkommando (prisoners forced to handle the bodies of gas chamber victims) succeeded in blowing up one of the four crematoria at Auschwitz . All of the saboteurs were captured and killed.
  • The Ending

    The war is officially over.
  • Her Rewards

    In 1985, Zofia Kossak-Szczucka's was betsowingly named one of the Righteous Among the Nations by Yad Vashem.
