Agnes Macphail was the first woman ever to be elected into the house of commons. This was a time for progress because this was one of the events that helped to spread gender equality. (Rating: 2+) -
Insulin discovered
In 1922 Fredrick Banting discovered insulin. This was an important event because I think this discovery gained more respect in the eyes of the countries and helped Canada to be seen as an independent country. (Rating : 2+) -
First province puts laws and regulations on Alcohol
In 1923 Manitoba was the first province to introduce laws and a system of selling and buying alcohol. (Rating: 1+) -
The exclusion act
This was when the government of Canada banned Chinese people from immigrating to Canada because of the Chinese immigration act.(Rating : 2-) -
Vanilla in pulp waste
The production of viscose rayon (a type of artificial cloth fiber) which was produced by pulp from wood. This lead to the discovery of a method of vanilla extraction from pulp waste at McGill University. This resulted in Canada providing 60% of the world vanilla. Vanilla was considered a rare resource.
