Assassination Ferdinand
The Archduke of Austria, Franz Ferdinand, was assassinated on June 28,2017. He was killed by a 19 year old kid, Gavrilo Princip. The assassination of the archduke lead to WWI. -
Austria declares war
Austria-Hungary declares war on Serbia on Jul 28, 1914. Austria is the first to declare war in this time period. Austria is the one effectively starting WWI because a teenager from Serbia had killed the Archduke of Austria. -
Battle of Marne
The first battle in WWI is the Battle of the Marne. It lasted four days in September. The allies at this time win against German forces in the battle of Marne. Sometimes also known as the Miracle of the Marne. Battle of Marne ended on September 12, 1914. -
First use of major gas
The Germans used shelled filled chlorine gas to know out the French. The result was almost killing the whole French side. However it was hard for the Germans to actually take advantage of the breach. -
Sinking of the Lusitania
During WWI Germans used submarine warfare against the UK. They would not let any ship in or out. On May 7, 1915 a ship with "passengers" headed towards the UK and almost immediately after entering the UK zone the ship was identified by German submarines and torpedoed. The Lusitania sank in 18 minutes killing everyone. -
TANKS USED
The first tanks are majorly used in WWI on September 15, 1916. They worked well then some did break done but a third succeeded in breaking through. British Mark I tanks were the names of the tanks used at the Battle of Flerscourcelette. -
The USA enters War
The United States join the allies in fighting this war. The allies included Britain, France, and Russia. More than 2 million soldiers were sent out to fight. -
Battle of Passchendaele
The battle of Passchendaele was fought on the western front and started in July. It end sometime in November. It was a battle against the allies and the German Empire. This battle is sometimes referred to the Third Battle of Ypres -
Germany signs armistice
On the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 the first World War was over. On this day Germany signs armistice with the allies. This agreement stopped all fighting on the western front. -
Treaty of Versailles
The Treaty of Versailles was a peace agreement that brought WWI to its end. It was signed June 6, 1919 but was not effective until January 10, 1920. This all took place in Paris, France
