    Japanese Invasion of China
    China resisted to the exapnsion of Japanese influence in its territory so Japan took large ares of eastern China. Japan wanted to be an imperial power. Economically, Japan neede more resources and militaristically, they were being controlled by hard-line military officers. In the end China lost their capital.
  • Rape of Nanking

    Rape of Nanking
    Imperial Japanese army forces killed hundreds of thousands of people in Nanking, China. Nationalist leader Chang Kai-Shek feared he would loose Nanking in the war so he ordered the removal of all official Chinese troops from the city leaving it defended by untrained anxiliary troops. In the end, 200,000 to 300,000 people killed.

    Germany's Invasion of Poland
    German forces bombed Poland from the air and on land because Hitler wanted to regain lost territory and to rule Poland for a "living space" for Germans. In the end, Germany and USSR outline their places of occupation of Poland.

    It was a military tactic designed to creat disorganization among enemy forces through the use of mobile forces and locally concentrated firepower. It was used becuase it was quick and always a surprise. It made military campaigns shorter.

    German troops occupied Paris because Hitler wanted revnege from when France signed the armistice that ended World War 2. Paris was poised for occupation.

    Hitler sent troops invading a front from North cape to the Black sea, about two thousand miles. Barbarossa's failure made Nazi Germany fight a two-front war against a coalition that posses surperior resources. Barbarossa failed and Nazi Germany confronted a two-front war that they couldnt win.

    Pearl Harbor
    Hundreds of Japanese fighter planes attacked Pearl Harbor, Americas naval base. It all started because Japan and the US had been edging toward war for a long time. Finally, America gave Japan economic sanctions but that made Japan stand ground. It destroyed 20 American naval vessels, 300 airplanes and 8 battleships, 2,000 Americans died and 1,000 wounded.

    Wannsee Conference
    Nazi officials meet to discuss the details of the "Final Solution" of the
    "Jewish question". They wanted figure out a plan for the "final solution to the Jewish question'. It ended with killing 1,000 people per day.
  • Battle of Midway

    Battle of Midway
    The Japanese commander of Pearl Harbor sets his eyes on Midway Island and attacks it. Part of Japanese strategy was widen its influence. They lost 322 airplanes and 3,500 men.
  • Operation Gomorrah

    Operation Gomorrah
    British bombers raid Hamburg, Germany at night and Americans bomb by day. They wanted the Nazis to seek peace and to surrender. It caused 30,000 people to die and 280,000 buildings destroyed.
  • Allied Invasion of Italy

    Allied Invasion of Italy
    Allies invade Strait of Messina from Sicily and the landing at Calabria, aka the "toe" of Italy. The opposition froups in Italy wanted to overthrow Mussolini and make peace with the Allies but a government in Italy threatened to resist any action. In the end, Mussolin was captured.

    156,000 American, British, and Canadian forces invaded France's Normandy region to free the northern part of France. The Allies surrrendered of Nazi Germany and Hitler committed suicide a week earlier.

    Batttle of Bulge
    Hitler tried to split the Allied Armies in northwest Europe, caught off-guard American units fight back. Hitler wanted to split the Allied Armies, making a repat of what the Germans had done three times previously. It was the costliest action ever and suffered over 100,000 casualities.

    Operation Thunderclap
    Allies bombed against the German City of Dresden. They did it because they wanted the Nazi War machine to come to a stop. 8 square miles of city was ruined, and between 35,000 and 135,000 eople were killed.
  • Battle of Iwo Jima

    Battle of Iwo Jima
    America invaded iwo Jima and it was defended by 23,000 Japanese amries. America did it because they wanted a base near the Japanese Coast. American losses with 5,900 deaths and 17,400 wounded.
  • Battle of Okinawa

    Battle of Okinawa
    The US air bases invade Japan, 287,000 troops of US against 130,000 soldiers of the Japanese. It was part of Americas three point plan to win the war and it was to capture Okinawa. Japan lost 77,000 soldiers and Allies suffered 65,000 casualties.

    Germany surrenders because after Hitler died, Karl Donitz was the leader and opened negotiations for surrender. After 6 grueling years of warfare, it comes to an end.
  • Potsdam Declaration

    Potsdam Declaration
    Japan surrenders to the Allies because the Japanese navy and airforce were destroyed. This ended the war.
  • Dropping of Atomic Bombs

    Dropping of Atomic Bombs
    An American B-29 bomber drops the worlds first bomb on Hiroshima. President Truman was mad Japan wouldn't surrender so he dropped an atomic bomb to end the war causing 80,000 people to be kiiled and 60,000 would be dead by the end of the year because of the fallout.
