    result - the town was killed and raped in cold blood.

    What happened - method of offensive warfare designed to strike a swift, focused blow at an enemy using mobile, maneuverable forces, including armored tanks and air support.
    Why it happened - to evade attack by the RAF, and the Blitz became a night bombing campaign after October.
    The effects/impact of the event - Although the raids caused enormous destruction and heavy civilian casualties—some 43,000 British civilians were killed and another 139,000 were wounded

    The effects/impact of the event - D-Day was the beginning of the end for not only the Germans but Hitler most of all.

    Why - It was the first major battle of World War II to take place on Japanese homeland. The island of Iwo Jima was a strategic location because the US needed a place for fighter planes and bombers to land and take off when attacking Japan.
    Result - all but 200 or so of the 21,000 Japanese forces on the island were killed, as were almost 7,000 Marines.
