War criminals go on trial
The allies punished the people who had cause so much destruction and death. The Axis power had repeatedly violated Geneva Convention an international agreement governing the human treatment of wounded soldiers and prisoners of war. Americans more closely followed the Nuremberg Trials, in which the allies prosecuted Nazis for war crimes. -

The United Nations is formed
The U.S led the charge for the establishment of the United Stations In 1945 delegates from 50 nations met in San Francisco to write the charter for the UN. The United Nations was organized on the basis cooperation between the Great Power not on the absolute equality of all nations. Over time the UN help the move away from colonialism, and supported the Jewish State of Israel. -
1944 BCE
New World Economy Takes Shape
The U.S took on big responsibilities in shaping the postwar world economy. After 1944 meeting the allies, the U.S government pushed for establishment of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. The U.S provided most of the working capital. The U.S also signed the General Agreement on Tariffs and trade, a 1948 treaty designed to expand world trade by reducing tariffs.
