Britain, France and Russia Create an Alliance called the Triple Entente. This was made to counter the Triple Alliance which looked increasingly dangerous due to things like the Naval Race. -

Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assasinated on the 28th of June by Gavrilo Princip who was part of the Serbian terrorist group "Black Hand". Princip also shot the archduke's wife Sophia. -

Battle of Le Cateau
British forces setup defensive positions in a fighting withdrawal against the German advance. The British Expeditionary Forces had suffered 7,800 casualties. This battle may have been looked at as a failiure to some including the commander of the German assualt. -
The Battle Of Marne
The First Battle of Marne was the first real offensive by the French. The Schlieffen Plan made by the Germans, but since the German forces had marched 240 km the were very tired and needed supplies that couldn’t be delivered. After 4 days of fighting the British and French had pushed the Germans back 72km. The battle did not come without a loss with an estimated 513,000 casualties all up. -

Ypres was an excellent vantage point for either side in WW1. This lead to a battle over it between the Allies and the Germans.The allies came out victorius. there were 134,000 German casualties. -

The Anzac's Land at Cape Helles (also known as ANZAC Cove) which marks the start of the Allied campaign. During the operation there were 143,000 casualities for both sides including 26,000 Australians. -
The Battle Of Verdun
The Battle of Verdun was the longest battle in world war one.The attack was planned by the Germans to attack a historically treasured area of France to humiliate them. This battle was supposed to relieve the French at Verdun by attacking the Germans at Somme therefore bringing German troops/soldiers to Somme relieving the French. The Battle Of Vimy Ridge
It was riddled with tunnels and trenches and reinforced by barbed wire, bunkers, nests of machine guns and artillery. At dawn on April 9, 1917, the Canadian troops (35,000 men) attacked the Ridge. It took three days of heavy combat and injured or killed more than 10,000 Canadian men. The British attack to the south was met with defeat. -
The Battle Of Passchendaele (3rd battle of Ypres)
Unlike the previous two battles, the third battle of Ypres was an attack from the British. It was a gain for the British as they were able to push forward more than a mile on the first day and gain control of the land east of Ypres. -
Armistice signed
The Armistice was signed in Redonthes after Germany had no other option due to British blockades starving the country. The official end of the war was the 11/11 at 11 o'clock 1918. -
Treaty of Versailles
The Treaty of Versailles was basically a punishment for the Germans to repay for the damage of the war. It put Germany into poverty and took away all its colonies and most of its Army, Navy and Airforce. It also set back the Germans 132 billion Gold Marks and was blamed for the war.
