    Archduke Franz Ferdinand assassination
    Archduke Franz Ferdinand was killed by Gavrilo Princip who was a part of a group called the Blackhand. The Blackhand wanted to stop Austro-Hungarian rule in the Balkans. The assassination caused WWI by causing Austria-Hungary to go to war with Serbia within six days of the assassination.

    WW1 officially starts
    WW1 officially started when Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia. It took 6 days for other countries to mobilize their forces.
  • First Battle of the Marne

    This battle was a victory for the Allied powers as they caught and countered the Germans. Germany was caught trying to invade Paris to take France. This battle was when the first use of trench warfare which later became a stable of WWI.

    This battle is also known as ''Race to the Sea''. This conflict had 600,000 Germans and 420,00 allies. This battle was 3 weeks of trench warfare. The fighting stopped when terrible winter weather came through. Fighting stopped on November 22.

    The Christmas Truce was an unofficial cease-fire on Christmas Day. The truce was between the British and the Germans as both sides played in the snow and played football together.

    Mustard gas was first used on April 22, 1915. The new weapon was used on the Allied powers as they struggled to survive against it. Mustard gas was used throughout the war and gas masks were made to survive against it. It was used in battles to different amounts of success.

    The Battle of Verdun was the longest and Bloodiest battle of WW1. This was the case because France and Germany refused to give up the land and continued to fight over it losing thousands of men. The main point that the Germans attacked was to drain the French resources. Neither side won or lost as both suffered casualties and had no reason to continue as long as it did.

    Zimmermann Telegram
    The Zimmermann telegram was a call to arms from Germany to Mexico. It said that if Mexico helped fight America they would give Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona to Mexico. This telegram was received by America which was a leading cause for America to join the war.
  • Russia withdraws from the war

    Russia withdraws from the war
    Russia had lost most of its force. They were underprepared, had few weapons, and no food to offer to soldiers, and had high amounts of casualties. The Eastern Front was no more as Russia was the only country fighting on that front. Some Russian industries were taken over by the Central Powers.

    America joined WW1 due to Germany's attacks on America-owned boats with their U boats. There was also a telegram that was received by America from Germany to Mexico. Germany wanted Mexico to fight America to stop their supply line to the ally powers. This caused America to join the war against Germany.

    The battle was, French and British forces trying to take control of Ypres from German control. The Allies used tanks to try to gain ground. Canada also sent troops to help gain more ground. It lasted for four months which led to an Ally victory.

    WW1's first large-scale tank offensive. The Battle of Cambrai was a battle of tanks and new artillery methods by the British. This caused the British to gain ground from Germany but a German counter push regained most of that area.
  • Second Battle of the Marne

    The last offensive push of the entire war. Germans attacked ally troops near the Marne River. The Germans where countered attacked by French and America troops who used fake trenches to confuse the Germans.

    Battle of Mons
    WW1's final fight Canadian forces attacked Mons Belgium which was held by the Germans. The attack happened due to the soldiers not learn of the armistice. This fight was the final day a soldier died who was a Canadian who was shot by a sniper. The death happened near minutes before the fighting stopped.
  • Treaty of Versaille

    Treaty of Versaille
    The Treaty of Versailles was an agreement between the allied powers. It made Germany take blame for most if not all of the damages and forced Germany to pay for those damages. Germany was not involved with any of the conditions of the treaty. Germans felt that it was unfair and that they felt targeted.
