  • (EU) Archduke Franz Ferdinand Shot in Sarajevo

    On this day, the Archduke of Austria-Hungary was shot by Gavrilo Princip. This event is often considered the spark for World War 1, which would grow because of entangling alliances.
  • (EU)Germany declares war on France

    Germany knew that France was going to get in the way of them attacking Russia due to their alliance, so Germany decided to strike first
  • (EU)Britain declares war on Germany

    This war occurred because of Germany disapproval to remove troops from Belgium, who was neutral. Germany getting in control of Belgium would be a big threat to Britain
  • Sinking of the Lusitania

    It was sunk by a German boat. It carried a lot of weapons and ammunition. The boat was owned by the Cunard Line.
  • Election of Woodrow Wilson

    American presidential election held on November 7, 1916 in which Democratic incumbent Woodrow Wilson defeated Republican Charles Evan Hughes in electoral college ( 277-254)
  • Wilson asks for Declaration of War

    President Woodrow Wilson asked Congress to declare war on Germany saying "the word must be safe for democracy". Four days later Congress voted for declaring a war against Germany.
  • The United States Declares War/ Congress Votes to Declare War

    Wilson request a meeting with congress on April 2, 1917. Following, the Senate approved the declaration to go to war against England with a vote of 82-6 on April 6, 1917
