    The Assassinaton of Archduke
    The Archduke was assassinated by a member of the Blackhand. Previously to this, another member of this clan had tried to kill him by throwing a bomb at him luckily his driver drove away before it could reach them.

    Austria was furious with the fact that the Archduke was killed in Serbia by a Serbian group so they teamed up with Germany and declared war on Serbia. But because of the alliances more and more countries were pulled in which started WW1.

    Germany had declared the water surrounding Britain a war zone and began trying Germany to sink British merchant ships using U-boats. They would not only try to sink British ships but ships from neutral countries too which caused the US to join the war.

    It was the largest sea battle in WW1 which was fought for over two days. There were 151 British warships and 99 German warships so the Germans were outnumbered though neither side really won.

    The battle of Somme started to weaken the German army and distract the Germans so the Frenchb could recover. This battle was 4 months long and was considered one of the bloodiest in history since there was new modern weaponary like tanks which were first used in this battle.

    The battle started on the western front and it was for control of the edges of the south and east of the Belgian city of Ypres. It was part of a strategy decided by the Allies at conferences.

    Russia recognized of Ukraine, Georgia, and Finland and gave up Poland and the Baltic states by signing this treaty. This marked the exit of Russia exiting WW1
