    Trench Warfare is warfare in which opposing armed forces attack, counterattack and defend from relatively permanent systems of trenches dug into the ground. The opposing systems of trenches are usually close to one another. Trench warfare is resorted when the superior firepower of the defense compels the opposing forces to dig in so extensively as to sacrifice their mobility in order to gain protection.

    Franz Ferdinand was assassinated on June 28,1914 at the hand of the Serbian terrorist group “Black Hand” which lead to the beginning of World War 1.
  • Christmas Truce

    Christmas Truce
    German soldiers emerged from their trenches and approached the Allied lines across no-man’s-land, calling out “Merry Christmas” in their enemies’ native tongues. At first, the Allied soldiers feared it was a trick, but seeing the Germans unarmed they climbed out of their trenches and shook hands with the enemy soldiers. The men exchanged presents of cigarettes and plum puddings and sang carols and songs. There even were documents of soldiers playing a game of soccer.

    Gas In WW1
    At Ypres, Belgium, the Germans had transported liquid chlorine gas to the front in large metal containers. With the wind blowing over the French and Canadian lines on 22 April, they released the gas, which cooled to a liquid and drifted over the battlefield in a lethal, green-yellow cloud. The gas shocked but, while some troops fled in panic, the Canadians held their ground. After several days of chaotic and brutal fighting, the Ypres position remained in Allied hands.

    Days before Lusitania was scheduled to leave New York for Liverpool in early may 1915, the imperial German Embassy in Washington D.C. placed ads in American newspapers reminding Americans that Britain and Germany were at war. On may 7, 1915, six days after leaving New York for Liverpool, Lusitania took a direct hit from a German U-boat submarine without any warning and sunk within 20 minutes.
