    Germans introduced poison gas
    Germans fire more than 150 tons of lethal chlorine gas against two French colonial divisions which devastated the Allied line. Back in 1914, Germans placed small tear-gas in shells and fired them at people.
    Germans were devastated by the effects of the poison gas, failed to take full advantage, and the Allies stayed in most of their positions. Sometimes the gas would freeze because it was so cold outside. Germans ended up killing 1,0000 as a result of their new weapon.

    After World War I began in 1914, a German U-boat, submarine, torpedoed the British owned steamship Lusitania, killing 1,128 people, 128 Americans. They torpedoed the Lusitania boat twice. Germans tried to defend themselves saying it was self-defense and they claimed the Lusitania carried weapons, war supplies, so therefore it was fair game. The Germans broke the naval rules. The U.S.ended up deciding to join the war after this happened because Americans died.

    On May 4th of 1916, Germans responded to the U.S. demand by agreeing to limit its submarine warfare to avoid a break with the U.S. On May 6, the German government signed the Sussex Pledge, promising to stop the indiscriminate sinking of non-military ships They used their first submarine in early 1915. The Germans were getting out of hand with attacking ships so President Wilson had to put pressure on the Germans to curb their navy. The Germans even sank the Lusitania on May 7, 1915.

    Forbes Allen wrote to his dad on the 3rd of January explaining that he met his brother and will see him again soon. Forbes mentioned that his brother is in the service in France also. Forbes was supposed to go home within a month or two before this letter was written. But in the letter, he says he will be stuck in France for a while longer.

    Forbes Allen was sent a letter with many names written down on it and they were given a certain order. The order was from Colonel Dean and Forbes name was on it. The order was that they were now on duty with Group Quartermaster. The men listened were also authorized to wear service chevrons.

    In 1919 Forbes Allen was discharged from the army. He was in Roxbury, Massachusetts when he got discharged. Forbes Allen was a Corporal from 12/15/1917 until 7/2/1919. when he was discharged his condition was good, he wasn't hurt or injured in any way.
