    Francis Ferdinand was assassinated at Sarajevo by Gavrilo Princip. This was one of the main reason’s that WW1 was started. This caused Austria to go to war with Serbia and this war caused a lot of other countries go to war. Germany was Austria's allie and Russia is Serbia’s allie. The reason this was a big deal is because he was next in line to be the king.

    German U-boats sink the Lusitania. The Lusitania was a passenger boat but the U.S. government was putting supplies in the bottom of it and sending it to the United Kingdom. Germany shot the ship because they didn’t trust the UK and didn’t like them. Germany and UK were at war also. On the plus side they didn’t want anyone coming close to their coast. After Germany did that the US entered the war.

    First use in mass of tanks at the battle of Somme. The reason for tanks was to stop the stalemate on the western front. They could advance in protection with firearms on it and men can follow it. The sides figured out a way to prevent the tanks from getting across their trench. All the men would do it make the trench wider and then the tank would try and cross it would get stuck and then the men would become a prisoner.

    On may 27th 1918 Hillie John Franz was sent to Marlin, Texas. He spent the night in a hotel. He didn’t get that much sleep because he was so worried about getting on the train in the morning. He had nightmares of what might happen to him in the war. He missed his family more than anything.

    On August 27th they hit land at Brest, France. They got off the ship and had to climb up a big hill with everything that needed. On the way up there was frence kids and old people begging for anything and everything but mostly food. But there was also ladies trying to sell nuts, grapes, and candy bars to the soldiers. Some of the soldiers tried to get friendly with the girls.

    On September 29th it was raining and they need to find a place to sleep. They found a big enough barn for everyone to sleep comfortably. When they woke up in the morning they woke up to a weird smell, almost like a dead animal. They come to find out that they were sleeping in a barn next to a horse hospital. The next thing that they find out is they were sleeping on dead horse bodies and bones.
