German U boat campaign of the war began with unrestricted attacks against merchant and passenger ships in the waters around the British Isles. This causes some conflict because the neutral US Americans are killed. -

This is the battle where poison gas is used for the first time of the western front. It is important because the Germans make an advance while the French makes a quick getaway due to some lack of protection. -

German U boat torpedos the British passenger liner called the Lusitania off the Irish coast. The boat sinks in a matter of 28 minutes. It drowned 1,201 people which includes 128 Americans -
Battle of Verdun
The German army attacks the French north of the city Verdun. The Germans made a quick gain here, but the French is now under new command and wants to try and save the city of Verdun. -

Was a battle fought between Britians Navy Grand Fleet and German Navy's High Seas Fleet. Was a battle won by the Britians.

The British suffered the worst single-day death toll in history. 18,800 soldiers were killed on the first day in this battle. -
America Enters
President Woodrow Wilson appeared before the US Congress and gave a speech. After the speech, he asks Congress for a declaration of war against Germany. -
Third Battle of Ypres
The British attempt again to break through the German lines. This is not very successful due to the rainy weather and the slippery wet conditions. -
British Tank Attack
This was the first ever mass attack by tanks done by the British. The Germans lost quite a bit of ground but the next day they make reinforcements and then gain back most as much as they have lost. -
First American Action
650,000 American soldiers have arrived in France, with the number growing by day. The first battle they are involved in is the Battle of Belleau, where they experience their first battlefield casualties. -
Germans Request Armistice
The Germans have bypassed the French and British in hope of negotiating with Wilson. The Germans are disappointed with Wilsons response as a list of demands being halting all U boat attacks and a withdrawal from all occupied territories. -
Armistice Ends Fighting
At 5:10 am the Germans sign the armistice which is effective at 11 am. The Germans sink 74 of their own warships in anticipation of being forced to yield them to the allies. -
