Christmas Truce of 1914
On christmas eve an unofficial temporary hiatus of the war happened. they got together and sang songs and reports say they played a game of soccer. other people had took up the task of retrieving the bodies of their fallen comrades. The countries showed there chivalry and holiday spirit by doing the temporary cease fire. -
War animals
There were many animals that were used in WW1. Horses were used to carry ammunition and carry injured soldiers. The Italians used Mules and donkeys to help them carry ammunition as well. They even put gas masks on there animals when they went into gas infested areas. -
Armenian genocide
The Armenians were slaughtered by the Turks in the ottoman empire during ww1. The Turkish people wanted to make an entire race go extinct. The ottoman’s viewed the Armenians are a weak and infidel race. They ransacked the Armenian villages as well as killing them. -
Lusitania sinks
A German submarine fires a torpedo and sinks a cruise liner named the Lusitania. There were 128 Americans on board that ship. 1,198 people had drowned on the ship. Germany told america that people were travelling at there own risk. -
The US Enters The War
The U.S senate voted 82 to 6 to go to war against germany. The U.S was getting mad because germany kept sinking there merchant ships and passenger ships. The U.S entered to help out britain because britain was spending too much money and the U.S helping had helped them spend less money. -
Selective service act
In 1917 after the U.S formally enters ww1 The U.S passed the selective service act. It started the draft that would draft soldiers into the army and they would be enlisted for war. What everybody needed was fresh troops to give to europe to replace there exhausted troops. -
Battle of bellau wood
John J Pershing Helped counter the german advance into paris. US Marines led an attack against four different german divisions in the forest. For three weeks they launched artillery shells and used explosives to force germany to retreat from Belleau Wood
