    Race for naval supremacy

    Germany and Brittan of 14 years of fighting to see who could get the bigger navy. They weren't at war at the time. The Brittish at first had a much larger navy force and Germany started to become worried if war were to break the would be completely exposed on the ocean front. The germans started to build their navy but in the middle of their construction, Brittan developed a new class of warship. It was armed with heavy guns and it was powered by steam engines. Germany wasn't able to compete.
  • Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand

    Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand
    This was the start of it all. Two shots were fired into the heir to the Austro-Hungarian empires' throne. The murderer was found to be a Serb. This caused Austro-Hungary to declare war on Serbia, that moment was the start of World War One.
  • How it all began

    First thing was the assassination of archduke Franz Ferdinand. Which made Austro-Hungary declared war on Serbia. In response to the declaration, Russia mobilized her army and Germany was going to help Austro-Hungary defend from the attacks. While that went of Germany declared war on France and made a move to capture Paris while going through beligum. As a result to this Brittan declared war on Germany and then the other smaller powers joined throughout the war.

    Brittan declares war on Germany

    On the 3rd of August Germany invaded Belgium to allow them to start the Scheifflin plan. In this plan, it was predicted that Brittan would not enter the war and there would be no resistance from Belggiiumm. Due to the alliance that Belgium had with Brittan, on the 4th of August Brittan declared war on Germany and joined the allies in their duties to try and win the war.
  • First battle of ypres

    The city of Ypres in northern Belgium had the first of three battles on the 19th October 1914. The Germans had commenced the battle due to their plan to move through Belgium and take Paris. The winter weather had made the battle come to a halt. There was no casualty tally and the fighting stopped by November 22nd 1914.
  • Second battle of Ypres

    This battle came as a surprise to the allied forces. The Germans had commenced their first and only offensive of the entire year. The head of the attack was lead by the typical artillery bombardment along with gas into the allies trenches. This was the first time gas was used and with the casualties seen France and Brittan began producing their own gas and gas masks. This was the first time that the Germans had an advantage over the alliees.

    The landing and ending of Galipolli

    This day was a tragedy and a very important and moment within WW1. There were thousands of losses. British, French, Indians and the Anzacs all were part of the Gallipoli campaign. There was horrendous almost a uncountable number of losses. In total, there were 21,225 deaths and 52,230 wounded. In total, there were 73,485 casualties. All of these casualties were dealt by the heavily fortified Turkush army. There was only one thing that was successful is this project. That was the evacuation.

    Battle of verdun

    The battle of Verdun was one of the longest battles alongside that of World War One. This battle took place within not even a ten square kilometer area. The predicted casualty amount was around 700,000. There was no other reason for the two side to commence the battle bar the fact they wanted to fight and show what they called pride for there country.

    Battle of Somme.

    This was one of the most major battles of the entire war. As a show of how tragic this was 57,000 died on the first day. The entire course of the tragic battle there were 1.5 million people that died. 57,470 casualties were suffered by the British. These deaths were more then the Boer, Korean and Crimean wars all combined.

    The first battle that tanks were used was the battle of Flers-Courcelette. Here was were Brittan deployed 42 tanks. In total France and Brittan produced 6,506 this to the germans that had 20 was not that big of an issue as they were trained and equipped to deal with tanks. In the battle of Amien, 72% percent of the tanks took into battle were destroyed. It was totalled up to 8 tanks survived 6 days before the war was stopped
  • First battle of Bullecourt

    First battle of Bullecourt
    This battle was the first of two. This was an Australian attack on the german trenches. This occurred east of the city of Bullecourt. One major flaw that was in the Australian 4th battalion was that they attacked the germans without nay artillery. This was, in theory, going to help with a surprise attack. Unfortunately, the german defence was growing ever so stronger and with the tanks coming into the picture it was a sure defeat. Over 3000 men were lost at the first battle of Bullecourt.
  • Second battle of Bullecourt

    This was the second of the battles that have occurred at Bullecourt. Three weeks after the 2nd battalion and the 62nd battalion attacked the german trench line. Unlike the first battle, they were heavily aided the battalions.
  • Third battle of Ypres.

    3000 guns began the third of these battles at Ypres. There were 9 Brittish divisions and ordered were 7 French divisions. With the attack, the allies had managed to take 5,000 Germans prisoner and advanced more than a mile. After this push, the fighting was stopped and then picked up again in August. The offensive was finally called off on the 6th November 1917 and victory's was ours. Brittish suffered 310,000, Germans suffered 260,000.
  • Schlieffen plan

    The Schlieffen plan is the german plan that would hopefully bring them victory. The plan was created due to the international tension that was there at the time. What it was is that Germany would be able to attack France and take Paris and then turn around and defend against the Russian attack. The plan failed because of multiple reasons. 1. They predict would take at least 2 months for Russia to mobile their army. Belgium would resist. It would take 6 weeks to defet France, Brittan not declare.
  • Battle of fromelle

    This was the first major battle that the Australians on the Western Front that they were involved in. They were placed and ordered to attack a strongly defended german base. The idea behind the attack was to draw some of the German forces away for the allies to progress through the point. The surprise of the attack after the seven-hour bombing. Both the Brittish and the Australian took heavy losses from the machine guns. The Australian casualties were 5,533, British 1,547and Germans less 1000.
