Assassination of Franz Ferdinand

Jun 14, 1914

He visits Sarajevo and is bombed when riding through the capitol but doesn’t die. Then a guy named Gavrilo Princip shoots Ferdinand and his wife. They both die later in the hospital.

The Central Powers

This was an alliance between Germany, Austria-Hungary, the Ottoman Empire and Bulgaria. Their plan was to take over France and all of Western Europe and Russia.

Austria-Hungary declares war on Serbia

Jul 28, 1914

After the assassination of Franz Ferdinand, Austria was outraged by it and declared war on Serbia. This is officially the first war of WW1.

Schlieffen Plan

Aug 7, 1914

This was a German proposal that was going to win the war for them. Their strategy was took take Western Europe and Parts of Russia to win the war. This eventually ended as a failed attempt to win the war.

The Allies

This was an alliance between nations such as Great Britain, France, and the Russian Empire. They were all fighting to defend the aggression of Germany and the Central Powers.

First Battle of the Marne

This was the first battle fought in WW1. It was fought from September 6th through the 12th. This war was fought between the Allies against Germany and needed in a Allied victory.

Sinking of the RMS Lusitania

May 7, 1915

The sinking of the RMS Lusitania was caused by a German torpedo that killed roughly 1,198 people on board. This was a big cause of why America later joins the war because they are allies with the United Kingdom.

First Battle of The Somme

This was fought in “No Mans Land” in between enemy trenches. No mans land was a terrible fighting condition with just open fields with a lot of barbed wire.

Russian Revolution

Mar 8, 1917

This was when the poor of Russia revolted against the government. This new communist government created the Soviet Union.

America Declares War

Apr 2, 1917

On the 4th of April, representatives of the United States meet in the Supreme Court. President Wilson gives his speech as says they we are going to join WWI because of Germany ways.

Russia surrendered WWI

Mar 3, 1918

Russias economy was really taking a hit during WW1 so they had to do something about it. On March 3rd of 1918 Russia signed a treaty with the Central Powers that officially ended their reign in WW1.

Treaty of Versailles

Jun 28, 1919

The Treaty of Versailles officially brought WWl to an end. The signing took place in the Palace of Versailles in Paris. The signing was between Germany and the Allied Powers
