Gavrilo Princip killed Franz for Serbian nationalism. This occured in Sarajevo, Bosnia. Princip was working for a group called the Blackhand. -
Austria-Hungary Declares War
Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia for the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand. One month to the day of the assassination Austria-Hungary had Germany's loyalty. By August Germany declared war on Russia for not stopping mobilization. -
Ottoman Empire Signs Accordance with Germany
Ottomans and Germans agreed to work to modernized the Ottoman army. In return Germany could get safely to British colonies close to the Ottomans. This is when these two came to an alliance. -

This battle lasted from the 5th to the 12th. It was fought over the Marne River. It ended in an allied victory. -

This batle lasted from the 9th through the 12th. It took place in Vimy, Pas-de-Calais, France. It ended in an allied victory. -
Second Battle of the Ypies
This battle lasted from April 22nd through May 25th. It was the first major use of gas by Germans. 168 long tons of chlorine gas were used. -
Battle of Flers-Courcelette
This battle lasted from the 15th through the 22nd. It was fought in Flers and Courcelette, France. It ended in a British victory. -
Paris Arrival
Quincy arrived in Paris on the 4th of January. He couldn't get a taxi at first. When he got to his destination he took a bath. -
Entry of U.S.
The U.S. entered WW1 as a result of 128 Americans killed on a British ship torpedoed by Germans. Two days later the U.S. declared war on Germany. 2.8 million were drafted. -
Q.C. Ayers boards USS Pocahauntes
Quincy boarded the USS Pocahauntes. He recounted men singing into the night. He also said the ship smelled but one would get used to it. -
Arrival at Front
Quincy arrived at the front on January 4th. He missed his 7:00 train. He caught a 10:00 train and arrived at 5:30. -
Receives Letter
On February 15th Quincy received a letter. It was his first letter from his wife Mary. It inspired him and gave him "vigor". -
Treaty of Brest-Litovsk
Treaty between central powers and Russia. Russia left war. Newly established government wanted peace. -
Goes to Goudeniourt
On March 30 Quincy bought a cap. He caught a 2pm train. From there he went to Goudeniourt. -
Armistice
Armistice was signed on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month of 1918. It has very harsh toward Germany. The fighting was over after this.
