The empire launched a war that was thought to be small.They underestimated the Serbs hugely. Ethical Dimension:Was it right for the empire to start a war against the much smaller Serbia?
Historical Significance:This war gathered the attention of both sides allies. -

Germany Officially Declares War on Russia
Historical Perspective:Everyone at that time and anyone who studies history now could see that tensions were high and it would happen eventually.Cause and Affect:This caused a domino affect of everyone declaring war on someone else.(The British after realizing that the Germans were marching through neutral Belgium declared war as well.) -

Germany Invades Belgium
Germany in carrying out their war plan decided to invade Belgium to get to Paris,France. Cause and Affect:The belgians were having none of it and didn't do as the Germans thought they would by letting them just march right through.Historical Perspective: In defense of the Germans their plan was thought out but not well: seeing as they did not plan cor the unexpected. But I can see why they included it in their plans because it was an easy solution. -

Turkey Joins The War
fought if you dig deep enough. Turkey entered the war on Germany’s side. Historical Perspective:What made them join the war? They did not have anything to do with it from the beginning and it should have stayed that way.Continuity and Change: This made other countries who originally had nothing to do join in as well -
Trench Warfare
Taking sides and blaming each other.Historical significance: Soldiers living and fighting in self-dug trenches is so commonly known and a huge part of the World War because it lasted so long and the conditions were terrible. Continuity and Change, and Ethical dimension: Sometimes rushing these dead men would not be buried deep enough so when natures elements hit they would resurface, which is not a good burial. To this day there are still bones of the men who fought if you dig deep enough. -

Germans New Weapons
The Germans fire shells filled with chlorine gas.This is the first time that large amounts of poisonous gas are used in battle.Ethical Dimension:Was it morally right for the Germans to use such a sly way of fighting as to ruin the air an enemy(who you can't be certain is really 'evil') breathes?Cause and Affect:This results in the very near collapse of the French lines.The Germans were not able to take advantage of this. -

The Sinking Of Lusitania
This well known ship was sunk by a German submarine and carried 1,198 people.Out of those 1,198, 128 were recorded to be Americans.Historical Significance:This event was popular enough to become common knowledge and still be thought of today, many years later.Ethical Dimension:These people did not deserve to die.I think the Germans just enjoyed spilling blood and wanted to see more spilt,so did it for fun because there was no reason to sink this ship with harmless people! -

First Tanks
The first tanks are used by the British as a way to get over the barbed wire.They were usually blown up along with the people inside and were thought to be scrapped many times.Continuity and Change:Since these much older tanks we have been able to build much better,newer and improved ones with more technology and not as many disadvantages to using it.Cause and Affect:The number of people killed inside because these tanks were not yet the greatest was pretty big. -

Battle of Verdun(Between the French and Germans)
Ethical Dimension:Both sides eventually realised that there was no gain,but they continued for some time hoping that would change.This only sacrificed the lives of more men,unnecessarily.Historical Significance:One of the first huge battles between two countries where there was a huge lost but no overall gain. -

Riots and Unhappy Citizens
Riots break out in Vienna and Budapest as the Austro-Hungarians express mounting dissatisfaction with the war. Ethical Dimension: Did Austria-Hungary really think of it's citizens when starting a war? Their battle declaration against Serbia was the first one. Cause and Affect: The continuation of war was really bad in a lot of place. Causing economic downfall, and harder lives on it's citizens.(There were strikes and demonstrations in Berlin and other cities protesting). -

German Air Force
The German Air Force launches its largest and last raid on London. Ethical Dimension:This was not necessary at all. Cause and Affect:Because of the Germans drastic measure out of the 33 aircraft, 6 are lost, while 49 civilians are killed. and 177 wounded. -

Peace Proposals
The German and Austrian peace proposal is sent to the American President, Woodrow Wilson, requesting an armistice. Historical Significance: This was one of the small and very first steps to making peace. Ethical Dimension: Finally these people have at least acknowledged their wrongs and are making an attempt to right them. -

A Day To Remember(Remembrance Day)
On 11th November a meeting was held and the Armistice was signed at 6am and came into force five hours later. Historical Significance:This was a day to reflect on as it was the start of something new and the end of something terrible that had lasting affects and all country's and citizens involved. Continuity and Change: Things have slightly changed since then. And although some countries may still not agree on something they can all agree that another world war is not the answer. -
