Austria-Hungary gives Serbia an ultimatum
Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia after the Serbs did not agree to Austria-Hungary's ultimatum that stated that Serbia allow the Austrians to investigate the assaination of the Archduke and stop all Anti-Austrain propoganda or they would declare war. -
Trench Warfare
As Germany started to invade France they were halted at the First Battle of the Marne. Both sides dug trences because machine guns were very hard to defend because there were no tanks or things of that nature. -
Lustania
The Lustania was a British passenger ship that also had americans on it. the germans used their U-boats, by shooting topedos, to sink the Lustiania because the Germans knew it was carrying arnaments and the germans prewarned the Birtish not to travel in their waters. -

Woodrow Wilson was re-elected president using the slogan, "He keeps us out of war." -
Zimmerman Note
The Germans sent a telegram to Mexico saying that if Mexico joined on Germany's side that Germany would help Mexico get back land from the United States. The British intercepted this telegram and gave it to the U.S. -
America joins the war
After hearing about the Zimmerman telegraph, the United States joined France, Russia, and Great Britain in the war. -

Wilson addresses his 14 Points for peace among the countries. The main idea was to have a League of Nations to settle disputes. -

The war ends at eleven o'clock on the eleventh day of the eleventh month of 1918. An armistace was signed between Germany and the Allies. -
Treaty of Versailles
A peace treaty was signed by German delegates and Allies. Germany would have to pay huge reparations and take complete blame for the war in accordance with the treaty.
