    Formation of the WSPU
    In Emmaline Pankhurst's home the WSPU was created. By October 1905 WSPU demanded to know if giving women the right to vote would be part of the Governments policy. Christabel Pankhurst and Annie Kenny tried to question Sir Edward Grey in Manchester with a banner that said 'WILL YOU GIVE VOTES FOR WOMEN?" on it but they were ignored and later arrested and sent to prison.

  • Beginning of Banners at Government Meetings

    Beginning of Banners at Government Meetings
    Emmaline Pankhurst introduced to members of the WSPU that at every public meeting where there was known to be a prospective member of govermnent speaking, there would be banners that stated "Votes for Women". This campaign extended to London in January 1906.
  • First Suffrage Procession

    First Suffrage Procession
    400 women marched to a meeting at Caxton Hall to the House of Commons to urge members to introduce suffrage. But this did not happen, as the women were refused entry.
  • March to Prime Minister's Home

    March to Prime Minister's Home
    After the WSPU was denied an interview with the Prime Minister they formed a deputation and marched to his residence, demanding to see him. They were told to leave and when they did not police were called and three women were arrested
