Hitler rises to power
Adolf Hitler becomes the leader of Germany. He rebuilds the military and demands “living space”, especially in Eastern Europe. This is the first step for World War Two occurring. -
Germany invades Poland
Germany invades Poland, this was caused by Hitler’s thirst for domination. After the invasion France and Britain declare war on Germany, officially starting World War Two. The United States is not involved in the war, but are preparing for possible involvement. -
The United States prepares for possible war
The draft began to be implemented in case of future war. The Lend- Lease policy was also implemented, which allowed the president to lend or lease supplies to any nation declared vital to the Us defense. The policy was used against Japan, the Us ended all assets and trade, which fueled Japan’s aggression. -
Russia becomes an ally
Russia joins the Allied powers of England and France. This was huge benefit to the allied powers since a very strong and ruthless country joined their side. The Us is still not involved yet, but when they decide the allied powers will become a very strong force. -
Pearl Harbor
Japan attacks Pearl Harbor, Over 2,400 deaths were caused from the attack, nineteen ships sunk, and 350 planes destroyed, however three aircraft carriers were out from the harbor and were not damaged when the attack was occurring. The event united Americans and cause the Us to join the war and join the allied powers. -
The battle of Stalingrad
Very destructive battle between the Ussr and Germany, but resulted in Germany’s retreat. Considered a turning point in the war for the European front. This was very important for the allied powers and started the end for the axis powers. -
D-day
The largest invasion in history when the allied forces invaded western France. Included thousands of troops, aircrafts, and vessels. The invasion was operated from Dwight Eisenhower. This brought the allied powers closer to victory. -
Yalta Conference
Conference which was held since the allies were very close to victory, during the conference they decided what would occur after Germany’s defeat. The concluded that Poland would have free elections, Germany would be occupied by the allied powers, Ussr would reassure their commitment to join the war against Japan, and allied powers would participate in the UN. The Us would have continued support in their battle against Japan and conflict with the Ussr was sparked. -
Germany’s defeat
On April 30, 1945, Hitler commits suicide, which leads Germany to surrender. Germany lost the war and the allied powers can now concentrate on the pacific front. -
Japan surrenders
On August 6, 1945, the Us drops the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima. Over 100,000 were killed or injured from the bomb. Three days later the Us drops the second atomic bomb on Nagasaki, killing over 60,000 people. This ultimately causes Japan to surrender, ensuring the allies victory, but shortly after the allies begin to crumble apart. The end of the war began shaping the future of the world and the rest of the twentieth century.
