    Adolf Hitler Comes to Power
    Hitler and the Nazi party decided it was time for them to take over the government. They began to blame the depression on the Jews and Communists. Hitler promised to make Germany a great power, and to rise it to it's former glory. The people believed him, and in 1934, the elected him as their Chancellor ("The Rise of Hitler").

    Germany invades Poland
    Germany invaded Poland on September 1, 1939. This was the official start of World War II. Within a month, Poland was defeated and occupied by Germans (WWII Timeline Events").
  • WWII Begins

    WWII Begins
    Two days after Germany invaded Poland, Britian and France delcared war on Germany. Germany already had an ally in the Soviet Union , and they broke uo Poland between the two countries. World War II had begun ("WWII in Europe").

    Germany invaded Norway and Denmark on April 9. On May 10, Germany begins to invade northern Europe, including the Netherlands and Belgium. On June 10, Italy joined the war and allied with Germany (WWII in Eurpoe").

    Germany Invades the Soviet Union
    On June 22, Germany invaded the Soviet Union, who was their ally. The Soviet Union's leader, Joseph Stalin, allied with the countries against Germany and began to drive the Germans out of their country. On December 6, the Soviets drove the Germans out of Moscow (WWII in Eurpoe").

    Japan Bombs Pearl Harbor
    On December 7, Japan, who was allied with Germany, bombed the naval base of Pearl Harbor. Immediately afterwards, the United States declared war on Japan. In turn, Germany and Italy delacred war on the United States (WWII in Eurpoe").

    In May of 1942, the British Royal Air Force began to bomb the city of Cologne, Germany. They attacked initially with one thousand bombers. For the next three years, the countries allied with Britian continued to bomb Germany (WWII in Eurpoe").

    The Germans Try to Take Control of the Soviets Again
    In the summer of 1942, the Germans tried to capture two cities in the Soviet Union, by stalling on both fronts. The Soviets launched a counter-attack in the city of Stalingrad. On February 2, 1943 the German Sixth Army surrendered to the Soviets (WWII in Eurpoe").
  • Allies Gain Control of Half of Italy

    Allies Gain Control of Half of Italy
    The Allies (countries who were against Germany) landed in Sicily in July of 1943 and began to try and take over the counrty for the Allies. The Italians overthrew Mussolini, who was a ally of Hitler. The Italian military surrendered on September 8, 1943 (WWII in Eurpoe").
  • D-Day

    D-Day
    On June 6, 1944 150,000 Allied soldiers landed on the shores of France. France was freed from German control by the end of August of that year. This was a turning point in the war for the Allies, as they began to come together and slowly defeat the Axis powers (WWII in Eurpoe").
