Japanese invasion of China
Japan wanted resources from China so they decided to invade and gather. China was divided in two and a lot happened. Japan saw this weakness and took the chance to gain territory. (The resources,too,of course.) The effect it gave was that it was the partial cause of WWII. -
Rape of Nanking
This was an episode where Japanese officers would kill half of the population of a city called Nanking. They also brutally sexually assaulted women in this episode. The impact was that Nanking was left in ruins and would take forever to bring back together. -
Ribbentrop/Molotov Pact
This was also named the German-Soviet nonaggression Pact. It was made so that they would both agree on not going to war against each other for the next 10 years. -
Germany's invasion of Poland
Germany attacked Poland without fear of social intervention. It's said that it was to get living space for Germany in Poland. The German-Soviet pact that stated that Poland had to be divided between 2 powers. The effect was that the Polish army was defeated within weeks of the invasion. -
German Blitzkrieg
The Blitzkrieg is a military tactic, in reality. It is designed to create disorganization among enemy forces by using mobile forces and firepower. It was used so that people could be kept alive and so that artillery wouldn't be overused. The effect was that it successfully employed the tactic with the invasions of Belgium. -
Fall of Paris
This was when the Germans invaded France. There was a long time of anticipation for this battle which came to an end when the Germans actually did it. The actually were able to overwhelm them. -
Operation Barbarossa
The Operation Barbarossa was a code name for an invasion. The invasion was when the Germans invaded the Soviet Union. This happened because Hitler wanted more territory. The effect it gave was that it was the largest military operation in history. -
Pearl Harbor
This was when the Japanese bombed a military base. ( Obviously called Pearl Harbor.) The Japanese intended the attack as a preventive action to keep the US pacific fleet from interfering with military actions. The effect is that it was one of the most memorable and horrible events of World War Two. -
Wannsee Conference
German officials gathered to have a discussion. The disscussion was made to discuss "the final solution of the Jewish Question". It was made because of the Nazi belief in the "master race". The effect was the Concentration/Death camps. -
Bataan Death March
Since the Bataan surrendered to the Japanese, they had to go through a 65 mile March. If they stopped walking,they were shot. They couldn't stop to eat or drink the whole time. This whole match was just to go to the concentration camps but many didn't survive just the March. -
Battle of Midway
The Japanese wanted to attack the US pacific fleet for a while. The thing was that they wanted to use Midway to base themselves to attack. It was just to show dominance so that they could secure their win. -
Operation Gomorrah
This was when British bombers invaded Germany by night. This was while the Americans bombed it. -
D-day(Normandy Invasion)
D-day was the allied invasion of Normandy.Many young men went in to breach the fortress of Europe. It was very difficult for it to happen but it actually did. It was an air,sea,and land operation. -
Battle of the Bulge
This was a huge offensive from the Germans to the allies. This was done with a Blitzkrieg when the place was split in 2. The impact was that it was the costliest battle from the US. -
Operation Thunderclap
This was a cancelled operation. It was supposed to be used to attack Berlin but was cancelled because it was decided that the plan wouldn't work out. -
Battle of Iwo Jima
This was a battle that all started with the US marines landing in Iwo Jima.They captured that island. (From the Japanesr Imperial Army) -
Battle of Okinawa
The tenth army went against the Japanese Thirty-second army. It was an 82-day campaign where air bases were vital to the attack. The impact was that it was last pacific battle in World War Two. -
VE day
This was a holiday that showed the official acceptance of the allies toward the Nazi's surrender. The impact is that it was actually considered a holiday -
Dropping of the Atomic Bombs
An American bomber drops an atomic bomb on the city of Hiroshima. President Harry Truman believed that it was easier to end the war by dropping an atomic bomb before the US had other greater consequences. The impact was that this was the first atomic bomb dropped in history. -
VJ day
This was the holiday that President Truman declared. It was the day when the Japanese surrendered to the allies which cause celebrations. It was a celebration because World War Two was officially done.
