The "Lusitania" was sunk by a German U-Boat
This a important event because Germany used unrestricted submarine warfare agantist the British. When the British passenger ship Lusitania was sunk and 1,198 people were left dead. 128 of them were U.S. citizens. The American public was outraged. President Wilson sent a strong protest to Germany. But after two further attacks they stopped. However, they returned to implementing unrestricted submarine warfare. They knew it might lead to war with the U.S. -

Second Battle of Marne
The Allies and Germans met once again at the Second Battle of the Marne in July 1918. The allies led the attack and smashed through German lines. The Central Powres were falling apart and the Ottoman Turks surrendered. It was the last German problem and ended in an Allied victory. -
