Rebel Gavrilo Princip was the assassin. The Austro-Hungarian emperor blamed Serbia for the death of his nephew. One month later, he declared war on Serbia despite having no proof. -
Countries Declare War on Other Countries
Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia which started a chain reaction. Seven European nations were at war & they were called Central Powers & Allied Powers. It spread into Europe, Africa, Asia. -
Sinking of Lusitania
The Germans fired on the Lusitania and it exploded killing 1,200 people. Roosevelt wanted to go to war, but Wilson sent a letter to protest the German government. The American people turned against Germany.
