Treaty of Versailles
The Treaty of Versailles was signed on June 28, 1919 at the Paris Peace Convention. This document blamed Germany for causing the war as well as giving them punishment for what they had done. This was a main cause of World War II. -

Germany invades Poland on September 1, 1939 which starts World War II. This is also known as the September Campaign. Germany won control and divided and annexed Poland with the Soviet Union. Germany and France try to stop the invasion but Germany refuses, causing them to declare war against Germany. -
Rationing in the UK Starts
On January 8, 1940, the UK starts to ration for items to use in World War II similar to what the US did. Different things were rationed and food stamps were used like in the US. -
Hitler Begins Operation Barbarossa
Hitler started Operation Barbarossa which was the invasion of Russia or the Soviet Union. This was one of the largest invasions in history with troops of about 3.9 million. Soon though, the Soviet Union and Germany sided. -
Japanese Attacks Pearl Harbor
The Japanese plan a secret attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and bombed and attack December 7, 1941. This destroyed half of the United States Naval equipment and destoryed 18 air craft, With this also, the Japanese took 2,323 lives from this attack. -
US Declares War on Japan
After the attack of Pearl Harbor, Franklin D. Roosevelt and the rest of Congress declared war on Japan on December 8, 1941. FDR stated that the day of the Attack of Pearl Harbor would be 'date that will live in infamy.' In this case, the United States sided with the Allies causing many of the major countries to be at war in World War II. -
The United States Wins Battle of Midway
The United States wins the Battle of Midway on April 7, 1942. This was told to be the turning point in the Pacific War. -
Germany's First Major Defeat
On Feb. 2, 1943, the remainder of Nazi forces from the Battle of Stalingrad surrendered, thereby ending one of the fiercest and bloodiest battles in the history of war. -
Italy Surrenders
On September 8, 1943 General Badoglio signs a surrender due to the orders from king and Mussolini was arrested. People did many different things. Some people went off to help fight for the Allies and those who resisted German commanders still in Germany were sent to concentration camps and were killed. -
Germany Captures France
On June 6, 1944, Germany invades France and captures them. This is now known as D- Day. An armistice was made between France and the Axis powers. This was a huge victory for them. -
Auschwitz Liberated by Soviet Troops
Soviet Troops liberated more than 7,000 remaining prisoners from the biggest concentration camp, Auschwitz on January 27, 1945. Most of them were in horrible condition and were forced to walk and start new lives off of nothing. -
Truman replaces FDR
Harry S. Truman replaces Franklind D. Roosevelt April 12, 1945 after FDR passes away the same day. -
Hitler Commits Suicide
Hitler commits suicide April 30, 1945 in Berlin. There is controversy on how he died whether it be poisoning, getting shot, etc. -
Germany Surrenders
On May 7, 1945, Germany signed an unconditional surrender at Allied headquarters in Reims, France, to take effect the following day, ending the European conflict of World War II. This occured after Hitler's death. -
Bombing of Nagasaki
The United States drops their second bomb on Nagasaki, Japan on August 9, 1945. This was the second bomb of the Manhattan Project. This bomb killed over 40,000+ people. -
Bombing of Hiroshima
The Unites States dropped the 1st bomb dropped in Hiroshima on August 6, 1945, It killed over 100,000 people and caused massive damage, being it an atomic bomb. Hiroshima met the requirements for an area to be bombed. This devastated Japan. -
Germany Surrenders; Ending War
On September 2, 1945, Germany signs their surrender as well as Japan closing World War II. A ceremony was held at USS Missouri and included a highly media documented time. The Axis powers accepted the terms, closing World War II.
