  • Prelude to WWII

    September 18, 1931, Japan invades Manchuria. Preludes to WWII.

  • Japan starts the war in the Pacific

    July 7, 1937, Japan invades China, initiating World War II in the Pacific. It caused Japan to officially be considered in the war.

  • Munich Agreement

    September 29, 1938, Germany, Italy, Great Britain, and France sign the Munich agreement which forces the Czechoslovak Republic to cede the Sudetenland, including the key Czechoslovak military defense positions, to Nazi Germany. Giving Germany an advantage

  • Germany violates Munich agreement

    March 14–15, 1939, The Germans occupy the Czech lands in violation of the Munich agreement, forming a Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. Causing even higher tensions.

  • Official start of WWII

    September 1, 1939, Germany invades Poland, officially starting World War II in Europe. This pulled the final straw causing the all-out war to finally begin.

  • Germany attacks Britain

    July 10, 1940,The air war known as the Battle of Britain starts. Starts a major air battle.

  • Forming of the Axis power

    September 27, 1940, Germany, Italy, and Japan sign the Tripartite Pact. They now become known as the Axis.

  • Italy takes control of Greece

    October 1940, Italy invades Greece from Albania on October 28. Greece is added to the Axis powers.

  • Battle of Britain ends

    October 31, 1940 The air war known as the Battle of Britain ends in defeat for Nazi Germany. First real victory aganst Nazi forces.

  • Hungary joins axis powers

    November 20, 1940, Hungary joins axis powers. Two other countries also join.

  • Romania joins axis

    November 22, 1940, Romania join the Axis. Along with two other countries.

  • Slovakia joins the axis powers

    November 23, 1940, Slovakia joins the Axis. Two other countries join

  • Pearl Harbor

    December 7, 1941; Japan attacked Pearl Harbor causeing the US to join the war. US started interning Asian-Americans for fear that they were spies.

  • axis powers in Tunisia surrender to allies

    May 13, 1943, axis power in Tunisia surrender to allied forces. Stops axis powers in North Africa

  • Allies liberate Rome and are able to bomb for the first time

    June 4, 1944, Allied troops liberate Rome. Within six weeks, Anglo-American bombers could hit targets in eastern Germany for the first time. A breakthrough for the Allies, since they could now finally attack with a great amount of force with little casualties.

  • US lands on Normandy beach

    June 6, 1944, US troops land on the beaches of Normandy to liberate the French and start a 2 front war

  • Soviets launch a final all-out assault on Berlin

    April 16, 1945, Soviets lunch final offensive by encircling Berlin. An all-out attack to end the war and try to limit casualties by ending it quickly .

  • Hitler kills himself

    April 30, 1945, Hitler kills himself before he can be captured

  • Nuclear Bomb devestates Hiroshima

    August 6, 1945, US drops atomic bomb on Hiroshima.

  • US drops nuke on Nagasaki

    August 9, 1945, US drops the atomic bomb on Nagasaki, Japan.
