The Long March began Mao Zedong rise to power. He gained support from the Communist party while evade pursuit of te Chinese Nationalist Party. The Long March was a series of marches that covered much of western China. -
Germany invades Poland; France and Great Britain declare war on Germany
Germany had first invaded poland and in response, Britian and France declared war on Germany. The first casuality of the war was a British ship sunk by a German torpedo. The British then began to attack the German navy and two weeks later, France joined the naval battle against Germany. -
Japan attacks Pearl Harbor
The Imperial Japanese Navy attacked te U.S. Naval base, Pearl Harbor in Hawaii, leading into the U.S. involvement in World War II. -
Germany surrenders
Nazi Germany surrendered to the allies ending WWII in Europe. -
Allies use atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki
The U.S. dropped the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima wiping out 90 percent of the city and 80,000 people. Three days later the Anericans dropped another devastating bomb over Nagasaki killing around 40,000. Thousands of people would later die of radiation poisoning. Japan soon surrendered to the Allied Powers. -
United Nations formed
As a replacement for the League of nations, the United Nations was an organization to promote international coperation. It was to prevent another conflict like WWI and WWII.
