German Gassings begin
In Germany, gassings begin under an action called T4. An estimated 200,000 to 250,000 mentally and physically disabled Germans are killed. This led to many Germans escape to the United States.

The Great War finally begins
Germany invades Poland. The Polish army of only two million was easily defeated. They were no match against the Germans tanks and heavy artillery. Great Britain then declares war on Germany.

Britain and U.S. studies Nuclear Weapons
Great Britain forms a committee to study the effects and feasibility of a nuclear weapon. President Roosevelt forms the National Defense Research Committee. This committee was formed to aid Britain in their research. This also leads to the Manhatten Project. -
France surrenders
Germany's first air raids on Paris begin. They drove their tanks in and the French govrnment fled from the country. France surrendered to the Germans. The French then signed an armistice with Germany.

Atomic bomb proved possible by Britain
Great Britain discovers the possibility of creating the atomic bomb. They forward a report to America. The report states that an atomic bomb is feasible. They begin their work right away.

Auschwitz
Auschwitz was one of the six Nazi death camps. Located in Poland, jews and traitors were sent there. It was the largest concentration camp. The first gassings happened in September.

Japan attacks Pearl Harbor
While negotiations were taking place between Japanese and American diplomats, the Japanese Navy attacked Pearl Harbor killing 2,350 Americans. The U.S. declares War on Japan thinking this will give them a good opportunity against Hitler. Germany and Italy then declare war against the Unites States.

Germany abandons its nuclear weapons program
Germany abandons it nuclear weapons project secretly. The allies still believe they are undergoing research. Hitler refers to physics as the Jewish science. He decides to exile almost all of Germany's physicists. -
Battle of the Atlantic
German U-Boats patrol the Atlantic Ocean forming a blockade against Europe in an attempt to stop American supplies reaching Britain. They used total unrestricted submarine warfare. The Allies developed a convoy system where merchant ships were guarded by destroyer escorts in order to giv Britain their supplies.

Battle of Stalingrad Begins
In the Russan city of Stalingrad the Russan citizens and soldiers fight to keep their city out of German clutches. The German 6th army, led by General Von Paulus, was forced to retreat. The Germans finally surrendered causing them to be on the defensive in the East from then on. -
Atomic "goes critical"
An atomic pile is assembled in Chicago by Manhatten Project scientists. The scientists names were Enrico Fermi and Arthur Compton. They state that the atomic pile has "gone critical". They demonstrate that it can produce both energy and the newly found element plutonium.

"Unconditional Surrender" Policy
President Roosevelt announces his "Unconditional Surrender" policy. He said that America will accept only an "unconditional surrender" from Japan and Germany. Meaning that they must surrender without any demands. He announced this publicly. -
Agreements between Allies to use bomb on Japan
Roosevelt and Churchill agree to the military use of the atomic bomb against Japan. They make their agreement in secret. The bombs are not yet available. They withhold the news about the bomb project from the Soviet Union. -
Bomb Fuel Production
The production of bomb grade U-235 begins in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. The Manhattan Project owns a giant complex there. Plutonium production also begins. It begins in Hanford, Washington. -
U.S bombings
The United States launches their bombs upon Tokyo, Japan. Approximately 100,000 people were killed. They were Japanese civilians.

Roosevelt Dies
President Rooselvelt dies leaving the duties of president to Harry Truman. Harry Truman becomes the new president. He knows nothing about the atomic bomb project.

Truman authorizes invasion plan
At a White House meeting Truman athorizes the two phase invasion of Japan plan called Olympic. Olympic is said to be directed on the island of Kyushu. It was scheduled in November 1945. Truman expresses his concerns about casualties. -
Allies warn Japan about the bomb
The Allies issue the Postdam Declaration stating that Japan surrender unconditionally or else they will face the devistation of their homeland. Some advisers try to convince Truman to also demand that Japan keep their current empreror thinking that it will make Japan surrender. Truman decides to sick with Roosevelt's "unconditional surrender" policy. -
Truman gives final bomb approval
Truman responds from a request from the Secretary of War, Stimson. Truman approves the release of a public statement after the bomb has been used. This authorizes includes the approval for the use of the atomic bomb on Japan.

End of War
Japan finally surrenders after the United States drop two atomic bombs in its major cities. They surrender to the U.S. aboard Battleship USS Missouri. Germany surrendered earlier so this is the real end of World War II.
