Alliances are the best known cause of world war 1. The alliance system is what led countries to oppose one another. The alliance system divided euopean continents into 2 rival groups. -
The assassination of Archduke and Sophie.
They both visit Sarajevo in Bosnia and are shot during their ride. This event caused Austria to attack Serbia which was defended by Russia which led to Germany siding with Austria. -

Austria received Germany's blank check on July 5th, 1914 and it promised an unconditional amount of support if Russia entered War. -
WW1 Begins!
This was dated the Out Break of War. Germany declared war on Russia followed by France and Belgium a few short days later. Then Britan and Japan declared war on Germany and It all got ugly from there. -
Lusitania sank!
Lusitania sank off the coast of Ireland in less than 20 minutes taking numerous of peoples lives. Walter Schwieger was the captian behind the U- boat that sank Lusitiania. -

The Zimmerman Telegram was a message sent to Mexico to join in on a war against the US in return Mexico would gain back "territory." This is one reason the US joined the Allies in World War 1. -
Rise of Hitler
Hitler didn't rise to power overnight or with just one event but many events led him to be widely known for many different things. Hitler took up some political work in 1919 as an Army political agent, but I think the treaty of Versailles was the biggest event that led to Hitler's rise in Germany. In 1933 Hitler became Chancellor and was determined to make himself the ruler of Germany. -

Stock markets crashed the total loss reached $ 17 billion. Drought ruined millions of farmers land. The bank of the US in New York collapsed. and much more happened over this decade long depression. -
Effects of WW1
World War 1 caused the most damage than any war before. 9 million people were killed Land was destroyedCountries had to rise taxes and "barrow" money from citizens. Economies crashed.
