    This was the idea that a country should extend it's power, or colonize. In this time lots of countries raced to find land to own and extend their power over.

    Miltarism was the belief that a large military was needed. Many countries involved in WWI were fans of this idea, causing them to build large armed forces.

    Nationalism was pride in your country. It was the idea that your country was the best!
  • Alliances

    Alliances
    The two Alliances were the Triples Entente with Russia, France and Great Brittain, and The Central Powers of Germany, The Ottoman Empire and Autria-Hungary. These alliances made it so if one of the countries went to war their partnering countries followed.

    The Archduke of Austia-Hungary and his wife was traveling to the capitol when they were assassinated.
  • WWI Begins

    It began when Austra-Hungary delcared war on Serbia when they refused to cooperate in an investigation into the Archduke Ferdinad's assassination. Germany agreed to fight with Austria-Hungary so they declared war on Russia and Belgium. England then declared war on Germany because of it's alliance with France and Belgium.

    The Lusitania Goes Down
    A German U-boat attacked a British ship carrying passengers near Ireland. It was carrying amunition but it was not a fighting ship, and Americans , who believed it should not have been sunk, were angered. Germany said they would not sink anymore unarmed ships.

    Zimmerman Note
    Germany sent a telegram to Mexico asking for them to wage war on America if America started fighting against Germany. It was intercepted by the British and sent to America, who's citizens became angry.

    Germany's Unrestricted Submarine Warfare
    In early 1917 Germany decided to launch unrestricted submarine warfare. This made America's trade with the Allies difficult and eventually led to America's involvement into the war.
  • America Goes to War

    America Goes to War
    About 4 million American troops were sent to help the Allied forces. American troops did a lot of fighting in France as Russia backed out of the war due to a revuolution.
  • Ending of the War

    Ending of the War
    The war ended and around 5 million Allied troops and 8 million Cnetral troops lost their lives. Their were over 6 million civillian deaths. There were also several new states formed afterwards, like Poland and Hungary.

    This Treaty held Germany responsible for beginning the war. It forced Germany to pay a high price in reparations. It also took some of Germany's land.
  • The Dawes Plan and Young Plan

    The Dawes Plan and Young Plan
    The Dawes Plan lowered the amount of money Germany had to pay to other countries until their economy got better. Also, France and Belgium gave Germany some money to help their economy and America loaned them money to pay the other countries for several years.
    The Young Plan made Germany pay less money in reparations, only $29 billion and make the last foreign troops leave Germany.

    The Beginning of the Great Depression
    This tragedy was caused by many things. One was thee stock market crash. Many started buying things on credit and farmers had too much debt to keep their farms. Soldiers came back from war and the jobs which women, immigrants or African Americans were doing became extremely competitive.
